Position Summary

A growing industrial technology and manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Senior Controls & Electrical Testing Technician to join its engineering, manufacturing, and quality team. This is a highly hands-on position responsible for the testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and final quality validation of custom-engineered industrial systems prior to customer delivery.

The Senior Technician will serve as a technical resource for electrical and controls testing, working with PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, instrumentation, control panels, power distribution equipment, and industrial mechanical systems . This individual will troubleshoot complex issues, interpret engineering documentation, identify non-conformances, support corrective actions, and ensure equipment meets design and operational requirements.

The ideal candidate brings strong industrial troubleshooting experience and is comfortable moving between electrical testing, controls troubleshooting, instrumentation, mechanical systems, and quality verification . Senior-Level Responsibilities

Electrical Testing & Validation

• Lead and perform functional testing of industrial electrical systems ranging from 24VDC through 480VAC .
• Conduct comprehensive electrical verification and final quality inspections before equipment is released for shipment.
• Perform continuity, voltage, resistance, insulation resistance, and functional testing.
• Utilize Fluke multimeters, Megger insulation testers, Hi-Pot testers, clamp meters, and process instrumentation/calibration equipment .
• Verify proper operation of PLC-controlled equipment, VFDs, motor-control systems, control panels, power-distribution equipment, and instrumentation.
• Review test procedures and ensure equipment is tested in accordance with engineering specifications and customer requirements.
• Serve as a senior technical resource for complex electrical testing and troubleshooting issues.

Controls & Troubleshooting

• Troubleshoot PLC, VFD, motor control, power distribution, instrumentation, and industrial control systems .
• Diagnose complex electrical and controls problems using schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, technical documentation, and diagnostic equipment.
• Verify operation of relays, contactors, sensors, actuators, switches, transmitters, and other control devices.
• Identify whether failures originate from electrical, controls, instrumentation, mechanical, or installation issues.
• Make appropriate adjustments and repairs or coordinate corrective work with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
• Support equipment startup and commissioning activities.
• Provide technical guidance to less-experienced technicians when troubleshooting difficult systems.

Quality Control & Documentation

• Perform detailed final inspections and testing to verify equipment conforms to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Complete QC hold-point inspections and verify manufacturing workmanship.
• Identify, document, and communicate non-conformances .
• Support root-cause investigations and corrective-action activities.
• Maintain accurate test results, inspection records, punch lists, and equipment documentation.
• Compare completed equipment against engineering drawings and specifications.
• Help identify recurring manufacturing or testing issues and recommend process improvements.

Drawings & Technical Documentation

• Read and interpret:
  • Electrical schematics
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Control diagrams
  • P&IDs
  • Mechanical drawings
  • Manufacturing prints
  • Equipment specifications
• Verify field wiring, components, instrumentation, and equipment configuration against engineering documentation.
• Identify discrepancies between the manufactured system and approved drawings.
• Communicate technical discrepancies clearly to engineering, manufacturing, and quality personnel.

Commissioning & Field Support

• Periodically travel to customer or manufacturing locations to support:
  • Equipment inspections

• Assist with resolving field issues and provide feedback to engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Represent the organization professionally when working directly with customers and project teams.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow established electrical safety and manufacturing procedures.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA and NFPA requirements , including applicable electrical safety practices.
• Properly utilize PPE and electrical safety equipment during testing.
• Follow appropriate lockout/tagout procedures.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Senior-Level Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, Automation, Controls, or related field preferred; equivalent technical education and experience will be considered.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of industrial electrical, controls, testing, maintenance, commissioning, or related experience preferred for the senior level.
• Strong experience troubleshooting and testing PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, power distribution, instrumentation, and industrial control systems .
• Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, pumps, motors, and other industrial systems .
• Previous experience performing electrical testing, equipment inspection, quality verification, or commissioning in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems from 24VDC through 480VAC .
• Ability to confidently use electrical test equipment and diagnostic instruments.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• NFPA 70E certification or formal electrical safety training preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical issues.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and field-service teams.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to junior technicians is strongly preferred.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Willingness to travel periodically for commissioning, inspections, audits, training, and technical support.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk approximately 90% of the workday .
• Regularly use hands and fingers for tools, equipment, wiring, testing, and assembly.
• Ability to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
• Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely from elevated locations using appropriate PPE and fall-protection equipment.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, noise, and other industrial conditions.

Work Environment

This position is based primarily in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment . The successful candidate must be comfortable working around industrial equipment, electrical systems, machinery, fabrication operations, and testing activities.

Short-term exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, elevated noise levels, and changing temperatures may occur. All employees are required to follow established safety procedures and wear required PPE.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $33.50 – $48 per hour
