Summer Internship Program Department: IT / BIM & VDC
Reports To: BIM/VDC Manager
Location: Houston, TX, with potential travel to project sites across Texas
Employment Type: Paid Summer Intern (10–12 Weeks)

Position Summary

The Controls & Low-Voltage Systems Intern will support the design and coordination of low-voltage and controls systems — including building automation, security, and network infrastructure — in partnership with the BIM/VDC team. This role bridges IT and construction, giving the intern exposure to how controls and low-voltage scope is designed, coordinated, and installed on commercial and mission-critical projects.

Key Responsibilities

Controls & Low-Voltage Design Support

• Assist with low-voltage system layouts, including security, access control, AV, and building automation.
• Support network infrastructure planning for job sites.

BIM/VDC Coordination

• Assist with clash detection and coordination models involving low-voltage and controls scope.
• Support model updates and revisions as design changes occur.

Systems Integration & Field Support

• Support OT/IT integration efforts and help document controls sequences and points lists.
• Participate in site visits to observe low-voltage installation and commissioning activities.

Qualifications & Skills

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field
• Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, protocols)
• Strong attention to detail
• Comfortable working both independently and alongside field teams

Preferred

• Familiarity with BIM software (Revit, Navisworks) a plus but not required
• Exposure to building automation systems (BAS) or controls programming
• Interest in construction technology or mission-critical (data center) projects

Internship Program Details

• Paid, 10–12 week summer program (early June – mid-August)
• Assigned supervisor for day-to-day work plus a separate mentor for informal guidance and support
• Company-wide orientation, weekly lunch-and-learns with department leaders, and a mid-summer check-in
• Capstone project presented to department and executive leadership in the final week
• Strong performers — particularly graduating seniors — will be considered for full-time offers
