Description
Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks an Electrician to perform journey-level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electrical systems and equipment for institutional facilities on 750-volt and below systems. This position maintains interior wiring, power and communication circuits, panels, motors, and related electrical components to ensure safe and reliable campus operations. Work includes troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, replacing components, interpreting blueprints and specifications, performing preventative maintenance, and developing preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs. This position reports to the Maintenance Specialist 4.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Install, modify, maintain, and repair interior wiring, cables, power circuits, communication circuits, switches, controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, and distribution systems;
  • Install, adjust, maintain, and repair electric motors, generators, and electrical equipment such as pumps, fans, lamps, stoves, timers, meters, clocks, and power tools;
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and repair electrical and communication systems to identify and correct faulty components;
  • Replace worn or damaged parts, including motor and generator components such as bearings;
  • Perform alterations, adjustments, installations, and modifications to electrical systems and equipment;
  • Construct, install, and repair electrical systems and components based on blueprints and technical specifications;
  • Develop preliminary cost estimates for electrical installations, repairs, and modifications;
  • Drive service vehicles as required, and load, unload, and transport materials and supplies;
  • May participate in a rotating standby schedule; assist and coordinate work with other trades personnel; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician or a four (4) year Union Apprenticeship (IBEW) or full journey status as an electrician in a union or four (4) years of applicable work experience; Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis;
  • Certification as a General Electrical Journeyman; EL01 License;
  • Valid and continuing Washington State Electrical License/Certificate; and
  • Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one before date of hire.

Terms of Employment
This position is a full-time, overtime eligible classified staff position. The typical work hours for this position are Tuesday through Friday from 6:30a.m.to 5:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule when prior notice is given by the College. This position is available immediately.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, 80 pounds with help from others or by mechanical means and climb a ladder and work from heights no more than 80 feet off the ground. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment and grounds/maintenance equipment.
Working Conditions

Work environment is performed in multiple locations such as a typical office environment, field and indoor/outdoor settings that includes some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following safety and driving requirements. There may be exposure to chemical hazards requiring the use of rubber safety gloves and safety glasses as provided. Interruptions occur on a regular basis. There can be exposure to adverse weather conditions and unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and/or uneven surfaces, while performing the duties of this position.

MEDICAL FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) & DEPENDENT CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DCAP)
The FSA and DCAP plans are optional plans offered by the College and the State of Washington. They are calendar year, pre-tax, spending programs you can use to set aside money for eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions and are administered by .


The FSA allows you to use pre-tax money to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses. An FSA can be used to cover qualifying expenses such as: chiropractic care, over-the-counter medicine, first-aid supplies etc. For a full list of qualifying expenses visit: .


For 2026, FSA annual contributions can be between $120 minimum and $3,300 maximum. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or IRS eligible dependents. The Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) allows you to save on child or elder care expenses (e.g. babysitting, daycare, in-home care for an older dependent incapable of self-care).

LONG-TERM DISABILITY

Employer-Paid Plan*
Provides 60% of the first $400 pre-disability monthly earnings, reduced by any deductible income.
The minimum benefit is $100 per month, maximum benefit is $540 per month. Benefits begin after 90 days of disability or the period of accumulated paid leave, whichever is longer.

RETIREMENT OPTIONS
Eligible employees participate in a Washington state-sponsored retirement plan through one of two administrators: the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) or the Teachers Insurance & Annuity Association (TIAA). MOVING EXPENSE REIMBURSMENT

REDUCED TUITION WAIVER PROGRAM
Employees can take most credit and non-credit classes at a reduced cost when space is available and certain conditions are met.


Credit classes
Permanent classified, faculty, adjunct faculty and administrative employees of CBC may take almost any credit class on a space-available basis if requirements and prerequisites have been met. The basic cost is $5.00, plus any fees associated with that class. Hourly and probationary employees are not eligible for this reduced tuition.
VACATION, SICK LEAVE, & HOLIDAYS
Vacation & Sick Leave
Classified staff, and administrative staff accrue vacation and sick leave at rates determined by their employer group. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for accrual rates.

Personal Holiday
In addition to accrued vacation and college-wide holidays, classified and administrative staff may select one personal holiday each calendar year. Personal holidays are not cumulative and lapse at the end of each calendar year. A newly-hired classified staff member may not take the personal holiday during the first four months of employment.
