Human Resources Generalist

Location: Naugatuck, CT Department: Human Resources Reports to: Director of HR Shift: Day Shift Job Summary The HR Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources department while partnering with leaders and employees across manufacturing operations. This role assists with a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment, HR reporting, employee relations, benefits administration, training and development, compliance, and safety. The HR Generalist helps build positive working relationships, supports employee engagement, promotes consistent application of policies and procedures, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen workforce effectiveness and business results. Essential Functions Coordinate recruiting activities, including job postings, interview scheduling, candidate communication, background checks, drug screens, and onboarding documentation. Support new hire orientation and ensure employees receive required company, HR, compliance, and safety-related information during onboarding. Assist with benefits administration, including employee questions, enrollment support, qualifying life events, and coordination with carriers or vendors as needed. Support payroll processing, timekeeping review, attendance tracking, and related follow-up to ensure timely and accurate employee data. Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, payroll, attendance, employee relations, and other HR-related matters. Promote consistent application of company policies, procedures, work rules, and employment practices across assigned employee groups. Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, company policies, recordkeeping requirements, and regulatory reporting obligations. Build positive working relationships with leaders and employees while serving as a trusted HR resource and maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Assist with employee relations matters, including fact-finding, documentation, follow-up, and support for objective workplace investigations. Maintain employee records and HRIS data; update information as needed and conduct audits to support data accuracy, compliance, and equitable policy administration. Partner with operations and safety leadership to support workplace safety initiatives, including safety communication, training coordination, incident documentation, mandatory reporting, and follow-up on corrective actions. Assist with workers’ compensation administration, including injury reporting, claim documentation, return-to-work coordination, and communication with employees, managers, and third-party administrators. Support compliance with safety policies, OSHA recordkeeping requirements, required postings, and related training documentation. Participate in employee engagement, retention, training, communication, and continuous improvement initiatives that support a positive and productive workplace. Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned, including occasional evening or weekend support based on business needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). 2 to 5+ years of progressive HR experience Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and integrity. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HR software (or willingness to learn). Positive, team-oriented attitude with a willingness to learn and grow. Preferred Qualifications Manufacturing Experience Bilingual preferred to support a diverse workforce. PHR, SHRM-CP Certification Knowledge of HR laws and best practices. Experience with workers’ compensation, OSHA recordkeeping, required postings, and workplace safety practices.
