Instructional Coach 2026-2027 Tenure-Track Position Location: District Salary Range: $70,958 - $74,758 Appropriate NJ certification(s) required. Reading Specialist certification preferred. QUALIFICATIONS New Jersey State Certification with appropriate endorsements. Reading Specialist Certification preferred. Experience in implementing English/Language Arts programs. Experience with Science of Reading or multisensory reading preferred. Experience with implementation of assessments and analysis of data to support instruction. Experience providing professional development to classroom teachers and staff preferred. Experience implementing coaching cycles and building teacher capacity preferred. Exceptional writing, oral, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and procedures. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education. Ability to effectively assess student learning characteristics, design appropriate instructional strategies, and plan educational programs. Required criminal history check and proof of US citizenship or legal alien status. Such alternative or additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board of Education may deem appropriate. REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES The Instructional Coach reports to the Director of Curriculum. They work in collaboration with Building Administrators and the Superintendent of Schools, as appropriate. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY The Instructional Coach shall maintain line and staff authority in accordance with the Board of Education approved District Organizational Chart. JOB GOAL The Instructional Coach, in accordance with Board policy and New Jersey Statute and guided by the Board-approved curriculum and goals as well as the administrative rules of the Superintendent, the Building Principals, and the Directors, is responsible for supporting assigned students. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Contract consistent with the agreement negotiated with the applicable bargaining unit. PERSONAL EVALUATION The Instructional Coach shall be evaluated in writing in line with state requirements and Board of Education policy and regulation by any of the following or combination of the following: Building Administrator(s), Director(s), and/or the Superintendent, at least twice a year if tenured and at least three times a year if non-tenured. The evaluation shall be based in part on the performance of the responsibilities indicated in this position description. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES General Responsibilities Visits classrooms regularly to observe, model, provide feedback, and make recommendations about appropriate strategies, classroom modifications, and the selection of adaptive materials to address the learning needs of students. Provides instructional coaching, including mentoring and feedback, to classroom teachers and instructional support staff. Facilitates coaching cycles, including model lessons, co-teaching, classroom observation, and feedback. Documents each stage of work. Supports implementation of district curriculum and evidence-based instructional practices. Supports students and staff in Tiers 1, 2, and 3 instruction and measures the programs' effectiveness. Participates as a member of the Data Team. Utilizes multiple data sources to help identify student needs and monitor progress. Supports staff in interpreting assessment data, assisting them as they use the data to inform instruction and intervention decisions. Develops criteria for identifying students in need of literacy intervention. Designs and coordinates intervention groups and schedules. Coordinates universal literacy screenings throughout the district. Serves as a member of the Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) Team for both buildings, collaborating with staff to develop and implement targeted student support plans. Interaction with Students, Parents, School and Community Maintains an ongoing relationship with families for the purpose of sharing information regarding educational planning and programming for students. Assists the instructional staff through conferences, consultations, observations, and demonstrations with classroom organization and the implementation of effective instructional strategies and materials for students. Provides academic support in individual and group settings for students as well as consults with parents or guardians and school personnel who work with the student. Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information in student files. Works with the administrative staff to facilitate the implementation of educational programs for students within the school or district. Professional Development Utilizes the evaluation process for self-reflection and personal growth. Maintains and improves professional competence by keeping abreast of current developments, new trends, and contemporary interpretations within and beyond the district's programs. Plan and deliver professional learning opportunities for teachers in literacy instruction. Utilizes technology relevant to the position. Participates in articulation between the preschool program and the elementary school program. Attends district-sponsored professional development opportunities. Participates in building and department meetings. Serves on committees related to the position. Seeks professional development opportunities outside of the school district for areas of professional interest or need. Maintains all required or mandated training programs and updates related to the position. District/Building Procedures Follows policy and procedures related to school safety practices. Monitors administration of assessments to ensure that students are following procedures as outlined as well as maintaining security and confidentiality for all assessments. Implements guidelines and procedures as outlined for school trips and other functions off school grounds. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and school-sponsored activities, functions, and events connected to the position. Implements Board policy as outlined. Communication Maintains parent/guardian communication in accordance with district policy and building protocol. Attends meetings at the department, school, and district levels. Works closely with administrators and staff members regarding student scheduling and student progress. Communicates concerns to the appropriate administrator. Other Duties Maintains confidentiality in all areas of the assignment. Performs all duties required as the Instructional Coach and complies with the procedures and protocol outlined in administrative code, state and federal laws, Board policy and the Office of Special Services. Assumes other duties and responsibilities incidental to the office or as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
