Intermediate Care Technician

Summary This position serves as an Intermediate Care Technician for outpatient settings such as primary care, mental health and specialty clinics at the Caldwell CBOC in Caldwell, Idaho. Qualifications Basic Requirement: All applicants must meet the following requirement; positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. English Language Proficiency: Applicants must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Specialized Experience: At least one year of experience at a GS‑6 level related to the duties of an Intermediate Care Technician, including observation‑based screening, collecting patient information, preparing patients for medical evaluation, specimen collection, and documentation in the medical record. Education: One full year of graduate education (18 semester hours) or an internship directly related to the position, completed at an accredited institution. Preferred Experience: Former military corpsmen or medical assistants, 1–2 years of ambulatory care or ER experience, or 1–2 years of med‑surg experience. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform extended periods of bending, standing, walking, and assisting patients. Duties Functions in the clinical associate role within the primary care clinic, utilizing a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. Provides direct and/or indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients. Performs point‑of‑care testing, vaccinations, diagnostic studies, and patient/family education. Collaborates and communicates with the PACT team and larger interdisciplinary team. Assists licensed staff with delivering care to patients with complex, specialized, or potentially life‑threatening situations. Conducts observation‑based screening, collects patient information, obtains health history, medication history, and identifies health‑related conditions. Completes approved templates and tools such as outpatient intake forms, normal result notes, and follow‑up treatment protocols. Observes patient status and reports changes to licensed clinical staff. Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations, preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments, and providing treatment during in‑person or virtual visits. Collects a wide range of specimens and prepares them for transfer to processing. Assists with patient examinations and screenings, including telehealth utilization. Provides patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. Administers medication via various routes and follows national and local pharmacy and facility guidelines for disposal. Recognizes life‑threatening situations and initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) and use of automatic external defibrillator (AED) according to AHA protocols. Conducts vital sign monitoring, 12‑lead EKG, point‑of‑care testing, specimen collection, wound care, and laboratory specimen preparation. Provides mental health care, including crisis intervention, behavioral/mental health screening, interviews, and observation of behavioral patients. Documents all actions, interventions, and procedures in the electronic health record (EHR). Works Monday‑Friday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm MST, 10‑hour shift with rotating day off every other Wednesday and every other Friday; telework may be authorized. #J-18808-Ljbffr
