Student and Program Support Specialist Pro 1

Overview This position supports the Department of Bioproducts & Biosystems Engineering in recruitment, student relations, alumni and stakeholder relations. The primary focus is to represent the Department, increase awareness, interest, and applications for the undergraduate programs through recruitment and marketing activities, and develop communications including recruitment materials and online content. Job Responsibilities 85% Student recruitment, retention, marketing and communications Help develop and support undergraduate recruitment and retention events; visit high schools, community colleges, and other venues; participate in recruitment events and career fairs organized by the college and university admissions; serve as an information source to prospective and new students; help organize, plan and conduct outreach events targeting prospective students and parents. Work in partnership with career centers and industry partners to promote student placement; participate in career fairs and interact with prospective employers; assist with student job placement efforts including arranging employer info sessions, interviews, counseling and mentoring. Collaborate with other communications staff to design, implement, coordinate and execute branding and communications plans in support of the department in line with college strategies. Assist undergraduate program coordinators as needed, and work with faculty, staff and students to coordinate and execute student recruitment and related events. 10% Student Relations Work with current students and faculty advisors to develop and support student groups and events that promote a sense of community. Assist with orientation programs and courses for new students. 5% Administrative support Work as a team member with other Department staff and provide backup coverage as needed; assist with planning and executing departmental functions and events; serve as first point of contact for department visitors. Qualifications Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related STEM field or a combination of related education and/or relevant work experience totaling four (4) years. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to work collaboratively with diverse audiences. Ability to travel occasionally within the state and region, occasionally beyond; some overnight travel required. Ability to work evenings and weekends if needed. Valid U.S. Driver’s License and personal vehicle. Able to lift and carry 25 pounds. Proven ability to work independently, collaborate with others, and manage multiple projects. Preferred Qualifications Prior public speaking experience. Demonstration of effective writing skills. Experience writing advertisement messaging. Interest in environmental sustainability, renewable resources and systems and products. Experience with website content management systems (Drupal preferred). Demonstrated knowledge of social media strategy and content strategy. Experience in recruiting high school and/or college students. Experience working with students or teaching. Previous experience in student advising, recruitment, outreach or marketing and/or communications. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: $25.00 - $27.25 per hour, depending on education, qualifications and experience. Position Type: Civil-Service & Non-Faculty Labor Represented Staff. Appointment: 100% full-time.
