B&H Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design and produce mechanical systems for the firm's commercial, healthcare, hospitality, and institutional projects. This is the role for a licensed engineer who has the technical work well in hand and is ready to take responsibility for whole project scopes rather than assigned tasks.

The position combines hands on design production with growing ownership of schedule, coordination, and client communication. The successful candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas with five to ten years of consulting engineering experience in building mechanical systems.

B&H is a firm of fewer than thirty people. An engineer in this role will see the full arc of a project rather than one phase of it, and will have a defined path to Senior Mechanical Project Engineer.

Location

Dallas, Texas office, with site visits across the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design and Production

· Produce complete mechanical construction documents in Revit, from schematic design through construction documents.

· Design HVAC systems including air distribution, hydronic piping, packaged and split systems, exhaust and specialty ventilation, and building level controls sequences.

· Perform heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selections, duct and pipe sizing, and pressure loss calculations, and document the basis for each.

· Conduct code research and confirm compliance with the International Mechanical Code, International Energy Conservation Code, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, and applicable Texas and local amendments.

· Draft and edit mechanical specifications for assigned projects.

· Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and technology models, and resolve clashes before issue.

Project Responsibility

· Own the mechanical scope on small and mid sized projects under the direction of the Senior Mechanical Project Engineer.

· Seal drawings and calculations under a Texas Professional Engineer license as assigned and as competence permits.

· Track assigned hours against the project budget and report status honestly and early when a scope is running over.

· Flag potential scope changes to the project engineer promptly so that an additional service can be initiated before the work is performed.

· Prepare deliverables for internal quality review and act on review comments completely.

Coordination and Communication

· Participate in design coordination meetings with the architect and consultant team and represent the mechanical position clearly.

· Answer client and architect questions on assigned scopes, escalating pricing, schedule, and contractual matters to the project engineer.

· Document decisions made in meetings and calls and distribute them to the project team.

Construction Administration

· Review shop drawings and submittals against the contract documents and recommend review actions.

· Draft responses to requests for information with clear, scope bounded answers.

· Conduct site observation visits and prepare field reports.

· Support punch list review and project closeout.

Development

· Direct and check the work of mechanical designers on assigned projects.

· Contribute to the firm's detail library, Revit content, and design standards.

· Maintain continuing education and pursue additional licensure or credentials with firm support.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

· Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain Texas licensure by comity within ninety days of hire.

· Five to ten years of consulting engineering experience in building mechanical systems design.

· Demonstrated ability to carry a mechanical scope from schematic design through construction documents with limited direction.

· Working proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including modeling, sheet setup, and coordination workflows.

· Proficiency with load calculation software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, or equivalent.

· Working knowledge of IMC, IECC, and ASHRAE standards, including Texas amendments.

· Clear written and verbal communication. Able to explain a design decision to an architect and to a contractor.

· Valid driver's license and the ability to conduct site visits across the metroplex.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in one or more of the following sectors: healthcare, hospitality, corporate interiors, higher education, K through 12, private clubs, or mission critical facilities.

· Exposure to central plant or large hydronic system design.

· Familiarity with plumbing and fire protection design in an integrated MEP setting.

· Energy modeling experience.

· LEED AP, Certified Energy Manager, or comparable credential, or interest in pursuing one.

· Experience at a firm small enough that the role required direct client contact.
