Position Overview

Charlie’s Plumbing is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Plumbing Estimator to estimate and develop larger plumbing projects within existing commercial and industrial facilities throughout Greater Houston.

This position requires a current plumbing license.

Charlie’s does not perform new construction. Our work is focused on existing facilities, including complex repairs, replacements, retrofits, system upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and capital projects.

We are looking for someone with strong field experience who can walk a facility, diagnose plumbing needs, develop an accurate scope and estimate, and present a professional solution to the customer. The right candidate will also have the initiative and commercial awareness to identify larger opportunities and help build a strong pipeline of profitable project work.

Responsibilities

• Visit commercial and industrial facilities to evaluate plumbing repairs, replacements, upgrades, and larger projects
• Meet with facility managers, engineers, maintenance personnel, property managers, and other customer decision-makers
• Diagnose plumbing problems and recommend appropriate repair, replacement, or upgrade solutions
• Develop accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs
• Prepare detailed scopes of work, proposals, exclusions, assumptions, and project requirements
• Perform field measurements and material takeoffs
• Review drawings, specifications, equipment information, inspection reports, and other available documentation
• Obtain material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
• Evaluate manpower, access, shutdowns, phasing, permitting, equipment, scheduling, and other project requirements
• Identify potential complications and project risks before proposals are submitted
• Present and explain proposed solutions to customers
• Follow up on outstanding estimates and help move opportunities toward approval
• Identify larger plumbing needs, deferred maintenance, aging infrastructure, and capital improvement opportunities within customer facilities
• Work with existing customers and the sales team to develop future project opportunities
• Maintain an active pipeline of estimates and larger projects
• Ensure awarded work is thoroughly communicated to operations before the project begins

Typical Projects

Projects may include domestic water and sanitary piping replacement, repiping, sewer and underground repairs, gas piping, water heaters and boilers, pumps, backflow systems, commercial restroom renovations, kitchen plumbing, equipment connections, code corrections, infrastructure upgrades, and phased replacement of aging plumbing systems.

Required Qualifications

• Current Texas Journeyman or Master plumbing license required
• Significant commercial plumbing field experience
• Strong knowledge of plumbing systems in existing commercial and industrial facilities
• Ability to diagnose plumbing problems and develop complete repair, replacement, or upgrade scopes
• Ability to accurately estimate labor, materials, equipment, and project requirements
• Strong understanding of commercial piping, fixtures, valves, pumps, water heaters, boilers, drainage, gas systems, and related equipment
• Understanding of job costing, labor productivity, gross margin, and project risk
• Ability to read drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prepare clear, professional scopes of work and proposals
• Strong computer, math, measurement, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and opportunities simultaneously
• Professional appearance and ability to communicate confidently with commercial customers
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the Greater Houston area

Preferred Experience

Commercial service plumbing estimating, project management, service management, plumbing supervision, or senior commercial field leadership.

Experience estimating and managing larger repair, replacement, retrofit, and infrastructure projects in occupied commercial facilities is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate is an experienced plumbing professional who understands how the work will actually be performed and can turn that knowledge into accurate, profitable proposals. They should also be able to look beyond the immediate repair, recognize larger facility needs, and develop those needs into future projects.

This person should be comfortable building relationships with facility managers and other customer decision-makers, asking the right questions, and identifying upcoming plumbing needs before they become emergencies.

The successful candidate combines plumbing expertise, estimating ability, customer communication, commercial judgment, and initiative.

Success in This Role

Performance will be measured by the quality and profitability of the work developed, including estimate volume and turnaround, qualified project pipeline, larger opportunities identified, proposal conversion rate, gross margin, estimate accuracy, and project performance.

Work Environment

This position combines office-based estimating with regular visits to commercial and industrial facilities throughout Greater Houston. The estimator will work closely with sales, service, operations, field personnel, vendors, and customers.
