Principal Deputy Chief Information Officer

Job Summary The Principal Deputy Chief Information Officer (PDCIO) reports directly to the U.S. Department of Commerce CIO and is responsible for leadership, governance, and execution of the Department’s enterprise-wide IT, data, cybersecurity, and digital modernization portfolio to support DOC mission delivery. Responsibilities Provide executive partnership and strategic direction to the DOC CIO for the IT portfolio. Lead governance, oversight, and operational execution of enterprise IT initiatives, including cybersecurity, data management, and digital modernization. Develop and implement strategic plans, budgets, and performance metrics to improve efficiency and align technology initiatives with organizational goals. Communicate technology strategies and program outcomes to executive leadership, congressional staff, auditors, industry partners, and federal stakeholders. Qualifications Professional Technical Qualifications (PTQs) – Demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning for complex or national‑security IT programs; ability to reduce operational costs, streamline processes, and build technology capabilities across platforms, infrastructure, and software. Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) – Evidence of meeting all five ECQs: Commitment to the Rule of Law and principles of the American founding; Driving Efficiency; Merit and Competence; Leading People; Achieving Results.
