Job Title Bakery Cake Designer Department Bakery FLSA Non-Exempt Job Summary Responsible for decorating bakery items and providing customer service in the store and by phone. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, demonstrating care, concern, and patience to all customers. Smiles and greets customers, learns and uses their names whenever possible. Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading or unloading heavy items, and performing any other tasks that improve the shopping experience. Answers telephone calls promptly and handles customer product orders. Accepts and processes customer orders at the bakery counter. Works with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a comfortable work environment. Checks customer orders for the day, creates a timeline and production schedule, and decorates bakery items in a timely manner. Stays current on new designs and trends to meet department standards. Verifies cake order details daily (size, deco pack, icing, dates) and indicates supply needs. Orders and tracks supplies for the decorating area, prepares displays, and communicates specials and weekly ads with the bakery manager. Pulls cases for work, lists items to fill or replace, and develops daily bakery orders for bakers. Tracks daily retail production and identifies tasks to be completed with coworkers. Functions as a lead worker for part‑time or other employees, instructing and reviewing work. Participates in employee cross training and follows proper sanitation procedures. Adheres to company policies and store guidelines, reporting to work on time. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Wraps all products as necessary. Assists in other areas of the store as needed. Performs other job‑related duties and special projects as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Required skills: solving practical problems with limited standardization; arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages; filing, posting and mailing materials; copying data between records; interviewing to obtain basic information; giving basic direction. Six months or less of similar or related experience. Physical Requirements Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force (shared team lifting) occasionally; up to 50 pounds of force frequently; up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Must perform activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Vision requirements include visual acuity from less than 20 inches and greater than 20 feet, with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Working Conditions The duties are normally conducted in a store environment with significant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. Employees are exposed to flour dust, noise, cleaning chemicals and solvents, residual fumes, and temperature extremes. Equipment Used Standard bakery equipment: mixers, ovens, turntables, tips, bas, airbrush, telephone, cake machine, intercom system.
