We are searching for a Purchasing Agent in our Harahan, LA office. JOB TITLE: Purchasing Agent DEPARTMENT: Purchasing FLSA STATUS: Exempt

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Toensure the most cost-effective and timely way to provide the vessels withgroceries, fuel, and supplies.

SUPERVISION:

Reports to: Manager of Crew Travel & Purchasing This position has no supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS:

Track fuel costs on a daily basis. Communicate with all vessels on adaily basis regarding their location, fuel consumption and destination tomake sure that deliveries are taken at the optimum times. Coordinate the delivery of suppliesto vessels directly. Research and obtain quotes toensure the most cost efficient and highest quality supplies for vessels. Communicate directly with the fuel vendorsto inform them of future deliveries of fuel and what that specific needwill be. Complete Purchase Orders and reviewaccuracy of prices and quantities on a daily basis and maintain organizedand updated files. Handle and input invoices. Guarantee all figures coincide with thePurchase Orders. Track all fuel and lube purchasesby gallon on a regular basis. Track all purchases for assignedvessels Track all internal purchases forboth Harahan and Channelview Offices. Supply vessels with current supplycatalogs so that Captains stay informed of current prices to control theirindividual budgets. Prepare presentation for the annualCaptain’s Meeting. Stock new boats with all suppliesneeded for start-up. Assist Purchasing Manager on yearlybudget for fuel and supplies. Perform other related duties asrequired and assigned bythe Purchasing Manager, Vice President of Purchasing and/or thePresident of the Company. Requires being on call 24 hours aday, seven days a week. Operate a forklift and performsafety checks. Perform inventory checks;reordering, receiving and storing supplies. Responsible for warehousemaintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language. High school diploma or generaleducation degree (GED); one to three years related experience and/ortraining preferred. Knowledge of Marine industry aplus. Proficiency in or knowledge of avariety of computer software applications, including but not limited toExcel and Microsoft Word software. High level of interpersonal skillsto handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. Knowledge of office administrationprocedures. Ability to operate most standardoffice equipment. Attention to detail in composing,typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meetingdeadlines. Must possess or be able to obtain aTWIC card. Must maintain a clear drivingrecord and be insurable through our automobile insurance carrier.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Abilityto read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professionaljournals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, businesscorrespondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions fromgroups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Abilityto apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions topractical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Abilityto define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions inmathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concretevariables.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Thisposition requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and businessrelated meetings. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a MotorVehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence. Travel to/from tugboats within local areas as required. Occasional overnight travelmay be required.
