Division/Department Information The Journalism Program within the Division of Mass Communication invites adjunct assistant professors and instructors to teach Sports Broadcasting and TV/Radio Writing/Reporting for the fall 2026 semester. The program offers undergraduate coursework in writing, interviewing, ethics, sports broadcasting, sports writing, broadcast news reporting, podcasting, copy editing, and online news. Instructional setting: face‑to‑face, 85‑minute class sessions held twice weekly. Rank and salary are based on education level, quality and quantity of relevant industry experience, and college teaching experience. Responsibilities and Course Information The adjunct faculty member will work under the direct supervision of the Division Chair and will: Prepare and distribute a course outline aligned with the syllabus. Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects) that achieve the learning outcomes stated in the syllabus. Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic constructive feedback. Enter grades, post them per Provost’s Office guidelines, and be available to discuss grades in person, by email, or phone. Respond promptly to information requests during and after the course. Course Descriptions JOU 2204 Sports Broadcasting Introduces students to sports broadcasting, including preparation for play‑by‑play and color commentary, in‑studio radio and television sportscasts, interviews, voice‑over work for game highlights, and TV and radio broadcast production. JOU 3312 Advanced News Reporting and Writing for TV & Radio Examines newswriting and broadcasting principles, covering script production, video and content gathering, broadcast reporting, interviewing, and ethical considerations in news stories and newscasts. Qualifications At least a bachelor’s degree, three years of higher‑education teaching experience, and five years of significant work experience in news broadcasting, sports broadcasting, or sports journalism. Strong teaching experience in higher education within the relevant field, with industry experience highly valued.
