Position Video Game Art Manager (Art Direction, Asset Production & Creative Leadership) The Donovan’s Venom (501c3 Nonprofit) Department Interactive Media Studio (Game Development) Location Remote Position Type Volunteer Leadership Role Reports To Director of Interactive Media Studio / Game Development Position Overview The Video Game Art Manager is responsible for leading the visual development of game projects, including art direction, asset production, and artist coordination. This role ensures that all visual elements—characters, environments, UI, and assets—are aligned with the creative vision and produced at a high level of quality. Operating at the intersection of creative direction, production, and team leadership , this role is critical to delivering cohesive, engaging, and visually compelling game experiences. Key Responsibilities Art Direction & Visual Vision Define and maintain the visual style of game projects Ensure consistency across characters, environments, UI/UX elements Align art direction with overall game design Asset Production Oversight Oversee creation of game art assets, including 2D/3D assets Character designs Environment art UI elements Ensure assets meet quality and technical standards Team Leadership & Coordination Lead and support a team of artists Assign tasks based on skill sets and project needs Provide feedback and direction Workflow & Pipeline Management Establish and maintain art production workflows Ensure efficient asset creation and delivery Coordinate with development timelines Quality Control & Review Review assets for quality, consistency, and usability Provide constructive feedback Ensure final deliverables meet project standards Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with game designers, developers, UX/UI teams to ensure art integrates seamlessly into gameplay Tool & Asset Management Support use of art tools (e.g., Blender, Unity, Adobe Suite) Maintain organized asset libraries Ensure proper version control Timeline & Deliverable Management Track progress of art deliverables Ensure deadlines are met Identify and address delays Creative Problem-Solving Resolve visual and production challenges Adapt designs based on technical constraints Balance creativity with feasibility Documentation & Standards Create and maintain style guides and art guidelines Ensure consistency across teams Continuous Improvement Improve art workflows and processes Support skill development within the team Enhance overall visual quality Volunteer Commitment & Benefits Estimated Commitment 10–15 hours per week Flexible schedule Participation in game development and creative meetings required Fully remote Minimum Qualifications 3–5 years of experience in game art Digital art experience Art production or creative roles Experience leading or mentoring creative teams Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant work Preferred Qualifications Experience with game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) 2D/3D modeling tools Experience in collaborative or remote creative teams Experience in indie or nonprofit game development Core Competencies Art Direction & Creative Vision Defines and maintains visual identity Ensures artistic consistency Team Leadership Guides and supports artists Provides clear feedback and direction Production & Workflow Management Manages asset pipelines Ensures efficient delivery Quality Control Maintains high standards for visual assets Reviews and improves outputs Collaboration Works effectively across teams Aligns art with design and development Problem Solving Resolves creative and technical challenges Balances quality with constraints Work Environment Fully remote Creative, collaborative development environment Fast-moving, production-focused team Important Disclaimer This is a volunteer position and does not constitute employment.
