Quality Control TechnicianThe Quality Control Technician performs analytical testing on incoming raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet established quality standards. You will work with a range of analytical instruments, support method development and equipment calibration, and contribute to both routine quality control activities and research and development initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse chemistries and products across multiple industries in a collaborative, family-oriented environment.ResponsibilitiesPerform analytical testing on incoming raw materials and finished products to verify compliance with specifications.Run basic titrations and operate gas chromatographs (GC), including GC headspace systems, to analyze chemical components.Use near-infrared (NIR) instrumentation and other analytical tools to conduct moisture testing and related analyses.Prepare and create shipping materials and documentation for the warehouse to support timely and accurate order fulfillment.Manage sample fulfillment throughout the day, including labeling, organizing, and distributing samples as needed.Assist with method development for new or improved analytical procedures to enhance testing accuracy and efficiency.Calibrate laboratory equipment regularly to ensure accurate and reliable test results.Perform general lab equipment updates, maintenance, and troubleshooting to keep instruments in optimal working condition.Apply good laboratory practices (GLP) and follow established standard operating procedures for all testing activities.Handle laboratory reagents safely, including proper storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with safety guidelines.Enter and manage test data in computer systems with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Organize and prioritize daily workload to meet testing deadlines and support production and R&D timelines.Collaborate closely with the QC Manager, R&D Manager, and other team members to support quality and R&D projects.Contribute to a safe, clean, and orderly laboratory environment by following safety protocols and housekeeping standards.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field, or an associate degree in chemistry or related field with relevant experience.Heavy coursework in analytical chemistry and general chemistry.3–5 years of quality control or laboratory experience (desired but strongly preferred).Hands-on experience with basic titrations and gas chromatography (GC), including GC headspace analysis.Experience working with NIR instrumentation and performing moisture testing.Strong organizational and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Good laboratory practices (GLP) and familiarity with standard analytical lab procedures.Proficiency in computer data entry and accurate documentation of test results.Knowledge of safe handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory reagents and chemicals.High level of attention to detail and accuracy in testing, documentation, and reporting.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with analytical testing using auto-titrators, FTIR, NIR, refractometers, spectrophotometers, and HPLC.Background in method development and validation of analytical methods.Experience in a quality control environment supporting food, pharmaceutical, personal care, or industrial chemical products.Ability to work effectively in a team-focused, R&D-oriented setting.Strong communication skills to collaborate with QC, R&D, and production teams.Demonstrated ability to adapt to new instruments, technologies, and procedures.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a laboratory environment and reports directly to the Quality Control Manager and R&D Manager. You will work on a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The lab is a decent size and equipped with a variety of instrumentation, including gas chromatographs (GCs), NIR systems, and other analytical equipment. The broader operation includes two plants producing specialty lipids, surfactants, and specialty chemical blends for applications such as food products, pharmaceuticals, personal care items, and industrial formulations. You will be part of a team of approximately 40 employees at the local site and 75–80 employees nationally.
