Medical Physicist Certified - Full Time - Cancer Institute

Overview The Certified Medical Physicist ensures the quality of care in the use of radiation producing sources and imaging equipment. Calibrates or guides others in calibration of radiation therapy equipment. Implements quality control procedures for imaging devices. Performs calculations and patient treatment plans, dose verification, and chart checks. Develops and maintains radiation therapy safety procedures in compliance with regulations. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Responsibilities Consult with the dosimetrist, physicist, and physician in development and maintenance of a quality assurance program for radiation therapy treatment modalities. Perform calibration on the radiation therapy equipment in accordance with standards set forth by state and federal regulations. Develop and maintain the radiation safety program. Perform routine clinical duties, acceptance testing, and commissioning of new equipment or procedures as it relates to radiation treatment, under the supervision of the Chief Physicist. Provide technical direction, training, and continuing education to physicists and dosimetrists. Assist radiation oncologists and medical physicists in performing HDR and LDR brachytherapy procedures; plan and perform the procedures as needed. Perform other job functions as assigned or requested. Education & Experience Master's Degree in Medical Physics Master's Degree in Physical Science Master's Degree in Radiologic Physics Master's Degree in Engineering Doctorate in Medical Physics Doctorate in Physical Science Doctorate in Radiologic Physics Doctorate in Engineering Work Experience: 3-5 years in medical radiation physics Licenses & Certifications Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrates competency in medical physics with the ability to carry out complex assignments. Understands and prepares complex written materials, such as technical reports and manuals. Communicates verbally with associates, physicians, and patients. Works without close supervision and exercises independent judgment. Organizes multiple tasks and projects while maintaining control of workflow. Supervision Provides guidance and technical direction to junior physicists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists. Physical Demands The position involves climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Requires exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and up to 25 lbs frequently. Requires close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform tasks such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data, and extensive reading. Involves frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact and exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials. Requires rapid reaction to emergency situations. #J-18808-Ljbffr
