Custodial Maintenance Worker

The purpose of this position is to perform custodial work in the maintenance of the assigned facility.

This is an entry-level maintenance support position.

This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Cleans and maintains floors throughout facility, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, and waxing.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms with necessary supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock break rooms and kitchens with necessary supplies, including soap, paper towels, etc.
  • Dusts, cleans, and sanitizes offices, counters, windows, walls, ceilings, doors, etc.
  • Gather and dispose of trash and recycling in all areas of assigned facility.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies for areas under responsibility.
  • Clean and maintain custodial closets and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency requests and cleans and sanitizes the area as needed.
  • Locks and unlocks doors in buildings according to daily schedule.
  • Perform light building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and filters.
  • Performs set up and break down of rooms for scheduled events and activities.
  • Perform daily inspection of facilities, grounds, and property under purview for cleanliness, maintenance, or security issues. Address and report as necessary.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of :

  • Standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
  • Workplace hazardous materials and proper use of.
  • Proper operation and use of custodial/maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, floor polishing machine, handheld blower and pressure washer, hand tools, etc.

Ability to:

  • Read and understand labels and instructions in safety data sheets, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Work a varying schedule of hours, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. Operate City vehicles, power tools and equipment including a mobile device to track work orders, and report incidents.
  • Learn the maintenance operation, policy and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office.
Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience of building cleaning or maintenance experience; or any acceptable related combination of training and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid,
  • A valid Florida driver's license is required.

Additional Information:

  • There is a one year-probationary period.
  • It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain their licenses and/or certifications as a job requirement.
