This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until December 14, 2026 or until all positions are filled. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Recruitment incentive may be authorized for highly qualified applicants. Major Duties and Responsibilities to include but not be limited to:

  • Provide direct patient care specific to subspecialty in the inpatient and ambulatory clinic settings.
  • Provide timely screening and resolution of consultations from other disciplines in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions specific to subspecialty including endoscopic procedures to units/programs in the Medical Center to which they are assigned and have clinical privileges to practice including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management.
  • Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • Documentation of care in the medical record in keeping with the bylaws of the Medical Center.
  • Provide supervisory oversight residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PA students, as appropriate, who are assigned to Medical Service.
  • Provide supervisory oversight of the clinical care on the inpatient service and ambulatory clinic of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants as appropriate.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences, and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Provide weekend and holiday coverage of the medical inpatient service in rotation at a frequency determined by the Chief of Medicine or Chief of Staff.
  • Ensures that the practice of medicine is consistent with Joint Commission, CARF, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, VISN standards, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, mandatory continuing education, and HIPPA policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff within clinical privileges to meet the needs of the organization.

Administrative Responsibilities (25%)

  • Supervisory responsibility of various disciplines to include, administrative staff, and other disciplines as assigned. Will be responsible for leave approval, time and attendance, completing performance appraisals and intervening in labor negotiations.
  • Will attend and preside over administrative meetings as designated.
  • Act as Clinical Champion for performance improvement activities to ensure service compliance with critical measures and monitors.
  • Perform chart reviews as part of Peer Reviews, measures and monitors, and in preparation to congressional inquiries.
  • Serve as Service level Patient Advocate with goal of service recovery.
  • Participate actively in delivering in-services training for medical center disciplines and services, in teaching medical residents, medical students and fellows and; in supporting an environment that promotes excellence in health care and encourages continual learning.
  • Will participate in labor Management Process to provided conflict resolution.
  • Will be assigned special projects based on individual competence and is responsible for all other duties assigned based on organizational needs.

Academic/Teaching/Training

  • Involved in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staff on units to which assigned.
  • Participation on the in-house staff report on a weekly basis.
  • Plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs that might further the educational and mission goals of the VA healthcare system.

Other Significant Responsibilities

  • Serve on Medical Center, VISN and/or National VA committees or task forces.
  • Represent the Medical service on hospital committees as directed by the Chief of Medicine, Chief of Staff and Medical Center Director.

Benefits

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Work Schedule: 8:00AM-4:30PM - Monday - Friday, 40 hours/per week; on-call as needed, evening, weekends and holidays may be required.
