The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for telemetry patients and 1:3-4 for stepdown patients. The average number of admissions and discharges can vary significantly. Common patient diagnoses include telemetry, post catheterization, and medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring needs. Required certifications include Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale. Experience in assisting patients with daily living activities, ambulating, feeding, and monitoring vital signs is essential. Nurses are responsible for understanding basic dysrhythmia and verifying telemetry strip interpretations. Communication with the on-site monitoring technicians is crucial for patient safety. A designated charge nurse oversees unit operations, and teamwork is emphasized. Pharmacy services are available around the clock for medication management. Respiratory therapy is accessible at all times for patient needs. Nurses will perform IV placements and are responsible for drawing labs from central lines when ordered. Weekend and holiday shifts are required on a rotating basis. Dress code is navy blue scrubs, which nurses must provide. Travelers may be asked to precept or take on charge responsibilities depending on unit needs. Cancellation policies apply to shifts within the assignment period. Charting is done using an electronic health record system.
