Daikin Applied is seeking a Designer III who will use computer-based tools to design parts and assemblies, create production drawings, and manage BOMs and product configurators. Designer II's will also originate, develop, or modify product designs from conception to finished manufacturing documentation assuring quality, manufacturability, functionality, serviceability, and cost has been considered. Location: Hybrid, Plymouth, MN

What you will do:

• Create engineering documentation including Solidworks, modeling, fabrication and purchase drawings that conform to Daikin standards
• Translate engineering/marketing intent into manufacturing working 3D layouts, detailed documentation and Bill of Materials and configurators
• Work with VAVE/Product Engineers and Production Engineers to provide 3D models and documentation for original designs or custom modifications of current products
• Exhibit a sense of design and mechanical aptitude with abstract thinking and reasoning skills.
• Demonstrate creative ability, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness through incorporation into design and configurator work
• Provide accurate estimates of tasks on projects and execute to your estimate. Work with project management to consume and communicate additional work estimates as needed
• Gain knowledge of design and manufacturing practices, processes, and Daikin products.
• Demonstrate an understanding of all current and legacy bill of material systems and product structuring logic
• Be part of and function in a team environment including cross-functional and inter-departmental teams
• Mentor less experienced drafters and designers within the team
• Potentially travel to other Daikin Minnesota or Mexico facilities as needed up to 10% of the time

Minimum Qualifications:

• Vocational, Technical, or Associate of Applied Science degree in design/drafting
• 8+ years of related design experience
• Experience designing in SolidWorks
• Intermediate Excel skills
• Must be proficient with creating and checking drawings to ASME Y14.5 drafting standards.
• Agile experience
• Experience with cost reduction and design for manufacturing
• Experience working within a team environment
• The ability to travel yup to 10% (mostly to factories located in MN)
• Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in sheet metal and tubing design and/or HVAC products
• Experience working with design tables and variable geometry

The typical salary for this position ranges from $36.49 per hour to $46.01 per hour in Minnesota. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
