Breast Sonographer-Per Diem

Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, the Ultrasound Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department’s mission through interactions with staff, manager and others as necessary. The ultrasound technologist’s primary duties are to generate diagnostic sonographic images for the radiologists, while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through the manager and lead technologist. Position Breast Sonographer Department Breast Imaging Schedule Part Time, Per Diem Essential Responsibilities / Duties Performs a wide variety of exams as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow. Assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures (biopsies, aspirations, thoracenteses, intraoperative, etc.). Prepares exam room and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols. Completes exams in a timely fashion while providing quality scans for Radiology and outside departments. Prepares patient for exams, ensuring comfort and modesty at all times. Assumes responsibility for the patient’s safety during the sonographic exam. Follows all departmental established policies and procedures as required. Sets up equipment and uses proper patient positioning and technique to ensure comfort, safety, and data integrity. Performs duties across all departments and campuses as directed by the Manager or Lead technologist. Works schedules as required, including overtime if necessary for department needs. Ensures exams requested match patient condition and/or history, and documents any limitations. Provides appropriate views, films, and variations of techniques as required by Radiologists, Managers, or Lead technologist. Provides care to patients of all ages. Maintains equipment in collaboration with management and service vendors to maximize uptime and minimize costs. Performs high level disinfection in accordance with policies. Delivers patient-focused customer service, communicates appropriately, and handles calls professionally. Treats patients and staff with dignity and respect, reporting problems to management. Accommodates patient and staffing needs through flexible scheduling and timeliness of studies. Operates all electronic systems (PACS, RIS, Epic, etc.) competently and efficiently. Documents requisitions, procedures, and billing requirements properly. Utilizes hospital values to guide decision making and support the division's mission. Adheres to all BMC RESPECT behavioral standards. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Associate's degree (or equivalent from a two‑year college) or certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography must be obtained prior to hire. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) – OB, AB, or RVT Accreditation must be attained prior to hire (one year to obtain accreditation for OB/GYN). Experience Experience in a related clinical area is preferred. Knowledge And Skills Work requires knowledge of principles and procedures of Ultrasound and the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of ultrasound equipment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required for effective interaction with patients, coworkers, students, and physicians. Special Working Conditions The ultrasound department requires 24/7 coverage; staff may be mandated to work overtime or cover shifts beyond their own schedule. Compensation Range $48.90 – $62.03 per hour. Compensation is based on education, experience, licensure, and other factors.
