Human Resources Assistant
Morgan County Government
Incumbent is responsible for providing broad and general human resource support in the administration of the Human Resources Department for day-to-day operations.
DUTIES:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, and measure data.
Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including accident reports, government and insurance forms, and other reports and records.
Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including computer handbooks/manuals, ordinances, county directory, etc.
Ability to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
Ability to use independent judgment and common sense in the performance of tasks.
Ability to work under stressful conditions, to respond immediately to crisis situations, and to balance priorities within and between offices.
Ability to maintain personal composure and tactfully handle difficult situations and interpret questions.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, other County personnel, customers, and the general public verbally and in writing.
Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing information and assistance, responding to inquiries, and/or directing callers to appropriate individual or department.
Assists employees and supervisors with basic interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
Responds to reference checks and verifications of employment status.
Reviews and monitors billings from insurance carriers, including verifying accuracy of all charges.
Assists the Director with Human Resources projects.
Assists with benefits administration.
Performs related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High school diploma/ GED and two (2) years of office/clerical support experience and/or HR experience.
Preferred - Thorough knowledge of and ability to make practical application of accepted administrative and personnel principles and practices and local, state, and federal personnel regulations and requirements.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, work rapidly for long periods, often under time pressure.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs duties with work priorities and schedules primarily determined by supervisor and flexible, customary routine. Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures. Incumbent plans and arranges own work and has moderate flexibility in the job. Decisions are always determined by specific instructions or existing, well established policies and procedures. Errors are primarily detected through supervisory review and legally defined procedures. Work errors could result in work delays and inconvenience to other agencies and/or the public.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains a working relationship with co-workers, other County departments, Commissioners, County Council, vendors, taxpayers, local, state, and federal representatives, attorneys, and the public for a variety of purposes, including exchanging information and explaining and interpreting policies and procedures.
Incumbent reports directly to the Human Resources Director.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment and vehicle, involving driving, sitting for long periods, sitting and walking at will, keyboarding, lifting/carrying objects weighing under 25 pounds, handling/grasping objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, close/far vision, hearing sounds/communication and speaking clearly.
Incumbent occasionally works extended hours, weekends and evenings, and travels out of town for conferences/meetings, sometimes overnight.
