Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: The working environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Police Officer encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the Police Officer frequently works in outdoor weather conditions, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. This type of work involves a significant amount of time spent in a patrol vehicle and has a high degree of exposure to hazards and danger (from traffic hazards to the danger of inherent in working with career criminals and emotionally unstable persons). Working conditions can be highly stressful. This position also involves shift work including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy.

- Responds to priority calls regarding public disturbances, criminal, civil, or emergency situations. Directs activities on site unless relieved by a supervisor. Maintain public order and may provide emergency medical assistance, traffic control, and otherwise ensure attention is given to general public safety.
- Detects and prevents criminal activities by surveillance and active patrols of assigned business and residential areas. Notes possible criminal occurrences and takes steps to prevent criminal actions. Promotes crime prevention by initiating contact with businesses and residents including explaining applicable laws, soliciting cooperation in crime reporting, and otherwise developing a good rapport with citizens.
- Investigates crime scenes and traffic crashes, assists other officers. Identifies, collects, and preserves evidence, and interviews witnesses, and suspects.
- Enforces traffic laws and vehicle codes and promotes pedestrian and bicycle safety.
- Prepares a variety of handwritten, typed and/or keyboarded reports related to crimes, accidents, and other duties. Maintains logs, completes forms and prepares reports as requested.
- Provides a variety of related police services including transporting prisoners, providing assistance to motorists, resolving domestic disturbances, public speaking before civic and non-civic groups, and testifies in court.
- Makes physical arrests that may or may not necessitate the use of force.
- Operates specialized and non-specialized police equipment including a police car, firearms, handcuffs, leg restraints, radios, and other related equipment. Uniformed officers are required to wear a ballistic vest.
- This position is considered a critical/essential worker and is therefore responsible for responding to emergencies and/or disasters that may require additional overtime or adjustments to your normal schedule to fit the needs of the organization.
- Education, Training & Experience
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of hire, there is no maximum age cutoff.
- Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification or will have obtained certification by the date of hire is required. *P.O.S.T. Certified out-of-state candidates are eligible for hire but will be required to obtain provisional CO P.O.S.T certification.

- Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of certified law enforcement experience with a similar sized agency or larger
- College degree with coursework in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Sociology, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or related field.
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
- Special License, Registration, or Certification Required:
- Certified as a Peace Officer by the State of Colorado Peace Officers' Standards and Training Board by time of hire, or if an out of state candidates have obtained the CO Provisional POST certification.
- Valid Colorado Driver's License with acceptable driving record, or ability to obtain a Colorado Driver license upon becoming a Colorado resident.
- Successful completion of comprehensive personal background investigation to include employment verification, reference check, criminal background check, civil court records review, truth detection examination, physical ability test, medical physical exam, drug screen, polygraph and psychological examination.
