Location: Howell, NJ
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site, Monday–Friday
Compensation: $150,000–$160,000 Base Salary
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Director of Information Technology to lead and evolve its global IT operations from its Howell, New Jersey office. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a technology professional who can balance strategic planning with hands-on technical execution.
The Director will oversee IT infrastructure, systems administration, cybersecurity, help desk operations, technology procurement, risk management, and a global team of IT professionals. This individual will be responsible for strengthening the organization's technology environment while establishing scalable processes, standards, and controls that support continued growth.
This is not a purely administrative leadership position. The successful candidate should be comfortable remaining technically involved, with approximately 30–40% of the role focused on hands-on technical work and the remainder dedicated to leadership, process improvement, project management, and strategic initiatives.
For the right individual, this position offers significant long-term growth potential and could develop into a CTO or CIO-level leadership role as the organization continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organization's global IT function, including infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, help desk operations, and technology support.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a global team of IT professionals while establishing clear expectations, workflows, and departmental KPIs.
- Serve as a hands-on technical leader capable of troubleshooting complex infrastructure, network, cloud, security, and systems issues when necessary.
- Develop and execute an IT strategy aligned with organizational growth, operational requirements, security standards, and long-term business objectives.
- Establish and manage Help Desk processes, ticketing standards, escalation procedures, service expectations, and performance metrics.
- Oversee Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory/Entra ID, networking, databases, system administration, and connected devices.
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity programs, controls, policies, and procedures designed to protect organizational systems and data.
- Lead IT risk remediation initiatives and ensure identified technology and security risks are addressed appropriately.
- Support SOC 2 compliance efforts, audits, documentation, and ongoing security readiness.
- Oversee software licensing, user access, permissions, procurement, and vendor relationships.
- Partner with business leaders to establish workstation and technology standards and ensure equipment is properly purchased, configured, secured, and deployed.
- Monitor the availability, integrity, security, and performance of servers, hardware, systems, applications, and other critical technology resources.
- Lead capacity planning, system performance optimization, hardware upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
- Identify opportunities to automate system administration and operational processes using scripting and other technologies.
- Establish and maintain IT policies, procedures, documentation, and change-management standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve scalability, security, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external service providers to develop technology solutions that support business needs.
- Provide executive leadership with visibility into IT performance, security posture, operational risks, major initiatives, and long-term technology priorities.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of progressive experience in information technology, infrastructure, systems administration, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience leading technical teams or IT functions.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory/Entra ID, networking, databases, and systems administration .
- Demonstrated experience managing IT infrastructure and technology operations across multiple teams, offices, or geographic locations.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including cloud security, vulnerability management, penetration testing, threat intelligence, and risk remediation.
- Experience supporting SOC 2 certifications, audits, or comparable security and compliance frameworks .
- Demonstrated ability to establish IT KPIs, workflows, service standards, and operational processes.
- Experience managing technology vendors, software licensing, hardware procurement, user permissions, and IT assets.
- Strong project management and change-management capabilities.
- Ability to automate technical and administrative tasks using tools or languages such as PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, C++, or similar technologies .
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and executive leadership.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining comfortable working directly within the technology environment when needed.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent professional experience will be considered in place of a degree.
Compensation & Growth
- $150,000–$160,000 base salary , based on experience and technical expertise.
