Position Overview Lead Counselor – provide leadership for other counselors, manage individual caseload, participate in facility committees and support the Clinical Supervisor/Director in problem‑solving, conflict resolution, state and CARF readiness. Key Responsibilities Ensure completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries and other documentation per federal and state standards. Provide patient orientation regarding program objectives, phase system, rules, sanctions, hours of service, patient rights and other essential information. Assure each patient is assessed and placed according to treatment phases per federal and state standards. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date clinical documentation and patient charts. Provide crisis counseling, identify resources and coping strategies. Counsel patients who have refused specific program requirements to increase awareness of consequences. Arrange referrals to community resources when appropriate. Participate in case conferences and reviews as per policy. Review counselor documentation and sign off as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinic Director. Assist in the overall direction and development of substance abuse services. Participate in treatment team meetings and grievance hearings. Conduct or assist with weekly staff meetings with the counseling team. Review counselors’ case files for compliance with federal, state and PTC requirements. Assist in annual performance reviews of counseling staff. Support state and CARF inspections, staff meetings and other areas. Provide in‑service training to clinical teammates on a regular basis. Monitor clinical records for quality and compliance; conduct mock inspections. Perform intakes on new patients. Develop preliminary and comprehensive treatment plans. Provide training and technical assistance to community agencies. Guide counselors in managing difficult or complex patients. Maintain accurate case files for each patient on their caseload and team caseload per requirements. Oversee substance abuse counseling case assignments and discharges. Attend team meetings and complete all required training timely. Attend ongoing training per program, federal and state requirements. Other duties as assigned. Pay Range $28.00 to $32.00 per hour. Benefits Variable pay structure based on experience, education and licensure. Qualifications Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor from a CA‑approved agency or current credentials as licensed or license‑eligible with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or Board of Psychology. If license‑eligible, maintain board requirements, including required clinical supervision by an approved supervisor. Proof of licensure or certification by a state‑approved regulatory agency upon hire; employees must be credentialed prior to providing services. Experience in patient evaluation, treatment planning and counseling services. Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, and customer service practices. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs. Preferred Demonstrated leadership qualities among the counseling team. Demonstrated superior clinical skills and ability to share expertise with others.
