If that sounds like you, step into our Railcar Structures & Brake Systems Mechanic‑Welder role in Queens, NY. You’ll protect riders and crews by ensuring each railcar you touch is safe, sound, and efficient.
Picture thisA car rolls in with uneven brake performance. You review drawings, inspect components, identify the culprit, fabricate what’s needed, weld with precision, validate with tests, and ship the car back to service—with detailed records to prove it.
Core responsibilities- Perform welding and fabrication across railcar structures and components.
- Conduct inspections to pinpoint issues and define repair plans.
- Repair and maintain brakes, wheels, and couplers for safe operation.
- Partner with teammates to troubleshoot and verify fixes.
- Follow safety procedures rigorously; keep the bay orderly and compliant.
- Log all maintenance actions and materials used with accuracy.
- Keep skills sharp by tracking industry standards and proven practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in welding or mechanics is a plus.
- Prior experience as a welder or mechanic; rail exposure preferred.
- Expertise with welding techniques, tooling, and safety protocols.
- Fluency in reading blueprints and technical schematics.
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Self-starter who also collaborates well on a team.
- Valid driver’s license and openness to flexible hours as needs arise.
