Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Helps customers discover new items or products they inquire about. Informs customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need. Checks product quality to ensure freshness. Reviews "sell by" dates and takes appropriate action. Provides customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered. Labels, stocks, and inventories department merchandise. Reports product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager. Stays current with present, future, seasonal and special ads. Adheres to all food safety regulations and guidelines. Ensures proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained. Gains and maintains knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products. Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store. Reinforces safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management. Practices preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair. Notifies management of customer or employee accidents. Works cooperatively in a high paced and sometimes stressful environment. Manages conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner. Acts with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information. Follows directions and seeks assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues. Provides support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
