Air and Waste Management Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3) Within the Nuclear Waste Program. Location Richland Field Office, Richland, WA. You must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule Eligible for telework and flexible schedule. Overview As an Environmental Engineer for the Hanford site‑wide Air Operating Permit and Notice of Construction (NOC) approval orders, you will provide professional engineering expertise to review and evaluate sitewide air permits, proposed approval orders, and modifications. You will negotiate and prepare permit materials and recommend enforcement actions to ensure compliance with state and federal air quality, dangerous waste, and CERCLA regulations. What you will do Perform professional engineering review of technical documents supporting air permits and compliance. Conduct air compliance inspections, prepare inspection reports, and recommend enforcement actions. Apply state and federal permitting and cleanup engineering requirements. Participate in project development and project team meetings; inform managers of schedule and availability. Review documents, reports, and permit applications to determine compliance and develop and negotiate permit requirements. Represent the agency on Hanford cleanup issues in public presentations, technical and partner meetings, negotiations, and consultations. Required Qualifications Registration as a Professional Engineer in Washington or equivalent registration in another state. Three (3) years of experience in environmental engineering. For Washington registration, eight years of professional experience (including up to four years of college‑level engineering education) and completion of sixteen hours of licensing exams. Desired Qualifications Demonstrated ability to perform environmental engineering reviews of plans and specifications, site plans, dangerous waste, water, and air permits, and CERCLA and MTCA remedial documents. Special Requirements / Conditions of Employment Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet Department of Energy requirements for a Hanford site access badge. Complete initial 40‑hour HAZWOPER training within six months of appointment and annual 8‑hour refresher training. If licensed in another state, obtain Washington State Professional Engineer license by comity within six months of hire.
