Registered Dietitian - Part-Time

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for supporting the nutritional needs of clients receiving substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health treatment at Diamond House Detox. This position provides nutrition consultation, menu guidance, client education, and individualized dietary recommendations in collaboration with Culinary, Medical, and Clinical Services.The Registered Dietitian reports directly to the Residential Clinical Director and works in close collaboration with the Executive Chef and Medical team to support safe, balanced, client-centered nutrition services. This role provides guidance related to menu planning, therapeutic and modified diets, client-specific dietary needs, nutrition education, and care coordination. The Registered Dietitian helps ensure that meals and nutrition-related services are aligned with health care provider recommendations, client needs, facility standards, and applicable regulatory expectations.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Menu Development and Culinary ConsultationCollaborate with the Executive Chef on menu creation, meal planning, and nutrition balance for residential and outpatient treatment programming, as applicable.Review menus to support appropriate nutritional content, variety, dietary balance, and client wellness.Provide recommendations for therapeutic, modified, or special diets, including but not limited to diabetic-friendly, heart-healthy, low-sodium, allergy-sensitive, vegetarian, or other medically indicated meal modifications.Partner with the Executive Chef and Culinary team to support practical implementation of nutrition recommendations within food service operations.Assist with identifying appropriate substitutions for clients with allergies, intolerances, medical restrictions, religious or cultural dietary needs, or other approved dietary accommodations.Provide guidance on portioning, nutrient balance, and meal planning practices that support recovery, overall health, and client engagement.Client Nutrition Consultation and Care CoordinationMeet with clients individually, as needed, to provide nutrition consultation based on health care provider recommendations, medical history, dietary concerns, or client-specific needs.Review relevant client information, dietary orders, provider recommendations, and Medical team input when developing nutrition-related guidance.Collaborate with Medical and Clinical staff regarding client dietary needs, nutritional concerns, and recommended interventions.Provide client-centered education related to nutrition, hydration, recovery support, wellness, and healthy eating patterns.Support clients in understanding and following provider-recommended dietary plans when applicable.Document nutrition consultations, recommendations, and follow-up needs in accordance with facility policy and applicable documentation standards.Nutrition Education and Group ServicesFacilitate nutrition education groups for clients on topics such as balanced eating, nutrition in recovery, hydration, meal planning, managing cravings through nutrition, blood sugar balance, and healthy lifestyle habits.Develop or assist with nutrition education materials, handouts, and resources for client use.Tailor education to the needs of clients in substance use treatment and co-occurring mental health recovery.Promote a nonjudgmental, recovery-oriented approach to food, nutrition, and wellness.Compliance, Safety, and Interdisciplinary CollaborationProvide nutrition-related recommendations consistent with applicable professional standards and scope of practice.Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality when working with clients.Follow all organizational policies, including documentation, privacy, safety, infection control, and client care coordination procedures.Participate in case consultation, interdisciplinary communication, or care coordination meetings as needed.Collaborate with the Residential Clinical Director, Executive Chef, Medical team, and other interdisciplinary team members to support client care and program needs.Support the facility’s compliance with applicable licensing, accreditation, and regulatory standards related to nutrition, dietary services, and client care.Notify Medical Providers, the Residential Clinical Director, or appropriate leadership of any identified nutrition-related concerns that may impact client safety or care.Must maintain current Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) credentialing through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and meet all requirements necessary to provide dietetic and nutrition services in California.Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.Experience providing nutrition services in a health care, behavioral health, residential treatment, substance use treatment, or similar setting preferred.Knowledge of nutrition assessment, therapeutic diets, food allergies, dietary accommodations, medical nutrition therapy, and client nutrition education.Experience facilitating nutrition education groups preferred.Familiarity with nutrition needs related to recovery, detoxification, co-occurring disorders, diabetes, hypertension, gastrointestinal concerns, and general wellness preferred.Ability to translate provider recommendations into practical dietary guidance and meal planning support.Ability to collaborate effectively with Culinary, Medical, and Clinical Services while maintaining appropriate professional scope and boundaries.Strong judgment in identifying and escalating client nutrition or dietary concerns to Medical team.Strong communication, documentation, organization, and client education skills.Professional, compassionate, and recovery-oriented approach when working with clients.Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, facility policies, and applicable regulatory or accreditation standards.Must pass background check, drug screen, TB screening, and physical exam. #J-18808-Ljbffr
