Senior Medical Director Administrative salary: $415,271 based on a 1.0 FTE or higher clinical salary. The total FTE allocated for this role is 0.6 Administrative and 0.4 Clinical FTE. This is a three‑year leadership term with the option to reapply through the standard internal selection process. REPORTS TO: CPMG Executive Medical Director of Operations Job Summary The Senior Medical Director is accountable for delivering the KP Promise to every member, every time, ensuring quality, convenience, personal care, and affordability. The role fosters inclusion and fairness, collaborates with a dyad partner under the VP of Ambulatory Operations, and sets the clinical vision for service lines. Key responsibilities include overseeing clinical performance, budgeting, resource stewardship, quality improvement, and operational excellence across specialty, continuing, and primary care services. The Senior Medical Director partners with other medical leaders, Quality leadership, KFHPCO leaders, and Labor to provide a seamless patient care experience. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Leadership Professional Respect and Credibility Works effectively with dyad partner(s) under the VP AO structure. Models goal‑oriented, collaborative high performance. Leads by example in communication, strategic planning, workforce engagement, partnering, and goal setting. Juggles medical/legal issues, staff concerns, customer demands, performance improvement, and workforce engagement in a timely manner. Enhances administrative knowledge through educational efforts and professional association activities. Clinical Proficiency Maintains knowledge of major advances in medicine and specialty areas. Enhances knowledge through conferences, seminars, and professional associations. Communications Clearly communicates CPMG's and KP's vision, mission, and operating plan. Strategic Leadership Planning/Goal Setting Partners with senior leaders and Medical Directors to set quality targets for KPCO. Creates and supports new programs, prioritizing initiatives and establishing accountability. Collaborates with other Medical Directors and regional leaders to develop operational efficiencies and innovations. Oversees short and long‑term delivery system planning with District Leaders. Values diverse stakeholder perspectives. Leadership Development Coaches, mentors, and develops direct reports. Creates a leadership pipeline and identifies emerging leaders. Develops cultural competency and agility. Ensures a team‑based leadership environment with cross‑functional partners. Strategic Direction Leads the development and execution of service line strategies and work plans. Engages in policy creation to meet service, access, and quality needs. Participants in new technology development and improvement opportunities. Maintains awareness of industry standards to support new programs. Operational Excellence Operations Drives integration across departments to reduce silos. Builds a culture of health equity and system‑level interventions. Ensures teams own hiring, staff expectations, and performance management. Quality of Care Partners with Quality leaders to design and implement operational programs for continuous quality improvement. Care Experience Accountable for patient access and satisfaction with KPCO. Develops an exceptional service and ownership culture across sites. Finance and Resource Management Controls financial performance of the region, including outside medical services targets. Supports resource stewardship and operational initiatives for financial success. Prioritizes resource management strategies with senior operations leaders. Innovation Partners with informatics to enhance care through information systems. Trials, develops, and implements new care delivery models. Encourages frontline staff to improve care and explores new technologies and products. Staff Engagement and Relationship Management Provides leadership liaison for medical group staffing and day‑to‑day operations. Drives inclusive climate and staff satisfaction. Partners with HR for performance management and leadership development. Conducts performance evaluations and identifies executive‑level mentors. Job Specifications Education Required: Medical Degree (MD, DO) with completion of an approved residency program. Preferred: MBA, MHA, or MPH in health administration or related field. Licenses, Certifications, or Other Essential Qualifications Current unrestricted Colorado state license. Credentialed by KPCO. Colorado Permanente Medical Group Shareholder in Good Standing. Board Certified by ABMS, ACPE, or equivalent accreditation. Meets CPMG performance standards for quality, service, access, coding, and documentation. Maintains board certification and stays current with major medical advances. Experience Minimum 3‑5 years: Progressive management, program, or business development experience. Experience in clinical program design, development, and outcomes evaluation. Clinical care experience. Preferred 5‑7 years: Senior management experience in healthcare with success in quality, finance, customer requirements, staffing, regulatory compliance, and organizational leadership.
