Position Overview

Our organization is looking for a faculty psychologist to become part of the interdisciplinary team at the Comprehensive Headache Center. This role presents a remarkable chance to influence the future of headache management, research, and education within one of the leading academic institutions in the nation. Candidates with expertise in health psychology, pain psychology, or specialized headache treatments are encouraged to apply. The selected individual will perform biopsychosocial evaluations, create customized treatment strategies, and deliver a comprehensive array of evidence-based therapeutic interventions aimed at assisting patients in managing pain and stress, ultimately enhancing their quality of life. Additionally, the psychologist will participate in collaborative research focused on headache treatment and provide mentorship and training to psychology and medical trainees regarding psychosocial evaluations and interventions for headache patients.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a solid background in clinical health psychology and integrated care for medically compromised populations.
  • Hold a doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited program, complete an APA-accredited internship, and have at least one year of supervised postdoctoral training.
  • Be licensed or eligible for licensure in Georgia. Board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology must be obtained within seven years of commencing this faculty role. Additionally, certification in biofeedback is required within three years of starting this position.
Key Competencies

The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong foundation in the following areas:

  • Core principles and practices of health psychology and pain psychology.
  • Thorough biopsychosocial assessments for headaches and associated psychological conditions.
  • Evidence-based therapeutic techniques (such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness therapies) aimed at reducing headache frequency, alleviating pain, enhancing functioning, and improving overall quality of life.
  • Experience with biofeedback and/or neurofeedback therapy for headache management (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Proficiency in evidence-based treatments for psychological disorders that may accompany headaches (including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar disorder).
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team.
