The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Project Delivery - Bridge Design & Engineering, is looking for a Technical Engineer/Architect 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview.

Anchorage: $4622.40 biweekly (OT Ineligible) Fairbanks: $4760.80 biweekly (OT Ineligible) Juneau: $4853.60 biweekly (OT Ineligible)

What you will be doing: Alaska DOT&PF Statewide Design & Engineering Services is looking for a Statewide Standards Team Lead (Technical Engineer/Architect 2) to join our team to help Keep Alaska Moving! This position will report to the Chief Engineer but will work closely with regional staff, planning staff, project delivery staff, Statewide staff, and the public, to support efficient transportation operations and infrastructure expansion.

This key technical leadership position will:

  • Lead a team of technical specialists in developing Statewide policies, procedures and standards for the Department (such as manuals and standard plans) to ensure consistent project delivery and quality of transportation infrastructure.
  • Provide technical expertise to project delivery staff to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Research national engineering standards and literature from professional sources on design and construction criteria and transportation-related topics.
  • Review and critique potential exceptions to national standards and regulations and discuss and negotiate specific changes to specifications with federal and State regulatory agency staff and others.
  • Provide authoritative guidance to DOT&PF top management, regional staff, and other State and local agency staff on design or construction-related policies, procedures, standards and technical matters.
  • Participate on Statewide and national committees as the DOT&PF's representative

The Statewide Design & Engineering Services team consists of a diverse group of exceptional individuals working collaboratively to support transportation project delivery Statewide. Special Note:

  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors -12 AAC 36.063
  • This position may include travel within the State (normally two to four trips per year that may last for up to two weeks per trip). Travel may include small plane, boat or ATV. Bridge inspections from under-bridge inspection trucks or lifts may be required.
