Dental Assistant - Expanded Functions

Responsibilities Assist with directing the dental office team to maintain productive patient flow. Assist doctors during a variety of treatment procedures. Prepare operatory rooms for doctors and hygienists and complete sterilization processes. Follow maintenance schedules for flushing waterlines, suction lines, waterline testing, autoclave, and compressor. Set up trays and operatory for all procedures. Support patient charting at a proficient level. Train staff on patient handoffs and monitor patient flow within the practice. Follow OSHA regulations and Aspen safety requirements, including HIPAA compliance. Take dental radiographs (X‑rays). Provide patients with oral‑care instructions after treatment and educate on hygiene strategies. Perform denture soft relines and manufacture temporary crowns. Monitor laboratory cases and assist in their management. Perform quality intraoral health scans within five minutes. Apply knowledge of the clear aligner process and teach patients accordingly. Take quality impressions and bite registrations. Perform expanded functions based on certification (e.g., coronal polishing, restorative functions). Maintain emergency kits and oxygen tanks. Order and maintain supplies in line with the practice budget. Perform various office tasks as needed. Qualifications Current Dental Assistant license, registration, and state‑required certification. State certification in radiology (X‑ray) and CPR or BLS certificate. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Dental Assistant. Proficient in chairside assisting and four‑handed dentistry. Demonstrate proper sterilization and infection‑control techniques. Maintain annual CE requirements as specified by state. State certification in expanded functions as required.
