Asphalt Plant Mechanic

Position Purpose An Asphalt Plant Mechanic is an hourly‑rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described below. This role involves transferring between tasks as workflow dictates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform all duties in alignment with Solterra's Core Values. Operate and maintain asphalt plant equipment, including electrical operations. Read and interpret repair manuals in their entirety, and analyze malfunctions and repairs. Diagnose defects by operating and inspecting plant equipment. Dismantle and reassemble plant equipment using hoists, hand tools, and weld broken parts and structural members. Act as a safety ambassador by complying with federal, state, and local laws and company safety policy. Promote a safety culture, proactively identify and remedy job‑site hazards. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear and test overhauled equipment to confirm efficient operation. Direct and guide team members during cleaning, assembly, and disassembly of asphalt plant belts and parts. Perform incidental work items and duties within other crafts. Any and all other duties assigned. Adjustments to duties may occur without notice. Physical Demands and Work Environment Requires constant physical effort during an eight‑hour shift, including standing, stooping, bending, and crouching. Work at heights up to 60 feet, requiring ladder, scaffold, and stair tower use. Frequent hands‑overhead work with hand power tools. Lift and carry at least 50 pounds, up to 150 pounds with assistance. Manual dexterity to handle generators, lumber, and construction materials. Operate concrete vibrators for extended periods. Physical dexterity to pour, grade, and finish concrete. Maintain constant alertness to concurrent activities on site. Walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather, including extreme hot and cold. Capability to enter confined spaces up to 15 feet deep. Use a man‑lift safely and productively. Work outside for prolonged periods in all weather conditions. Possible exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, pathogens, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles, or dust/debris. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (preferred). Three to five years of industry‑related experience in asphalt plant operations. Demonstrated experience as an asphalt plant mechanic. Effective communication of work directions and interactions with supervisors and coworkers. Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing). Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations Valid driver's license with a clean motor‑vehicle record; CDL preferred and possibly required.
