Software Engineer OpportunityThis is a Software Engineer opportunity with a leading mobile and telecom network software vendor in the FONES Protect business unit. This business unit is responsible for providing cloud-native call protection platforms and SOA-based data services to telecom operators, enabling real-time call treatment, subscriber management, and integration with carrier network infrastructure. The engineer's primary focus will be developing and maintaining an AWS-native, high-availability call protection system that delivers real-time nuisance call blocking and subscriber management for fixed-line and mobile network subscribers. Additionally, the engineer will support the broader FONES Protect application portfolio, contributing to REST and other endpoints, data feeds in and out of data warehouses and transactional data stores, as well as interconnecting services for interfacing with third-party data and service providers, such as telephony application servers, regulatory agency gateways, and billing/provisioning systems.We are looking for a great team player who is positive, self-motivated, energetic and a quick learner with commitment to quality and dedication to long-term success. A successful candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.We provide a friendly work environment, access to cutting-edge technology and the ability to work on highly challenging projects that are second to none in the industry.What You'll Be DoingDevelop and maintain REST API endpoints, enabling secure and demonstrably performant data exchange with telecom operator portals, carrier network systems, and cloud infrastructureDevelop and enhance the real-time call treatment engine responsible for evaluating incoming calls against priority-ordered list hierarchies at scaleDevelop parts of the solution responsible for storing and retrieving data from the various data stores, including NoSQL databases, distributed cache systems, object storage, and other cloud data servicesWrite software design specifications using modern design patternsDesign, implement, and write test software for both the delivered solutions and the surrounding architectureWork on performance to ensure high scalability is achieved and required KPIs are metDevelop solutions onto a cloud or an on-premises infrastructure working with Site Reliability EngineersContribute to advancing reliability and performance of the Service Architecture, introduce new performance counters and instrumentation points, as well as work with Operations during the rest of the ALMDevelop and maintain bulk data import and export pipelines for large-scale list and subscriber operationsContribute to observability tooling including structured logging, custom metrics, and alarm integration workflowsCollaborate with third-party partners and vendors to define, develop, and deliver feature enhancements and integrationsParticipate in the full SDLC lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production supportWhat You'll NeedRequires a bachelor's degree in a related area3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related areaSolid Java software design skills, backed by 3-5 years of experienceExperience with Spring Boot for building production REST API servicesExperience developing software for LinuxThorough understanding of algorithms, data structures and software design fundamentals, including software design patterns and practicesKnowledge of source control management with GitExperience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB preferred) and/or one of the following RDBMSs: MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle and/or Postgres in JavaKnowledge and Experience with AWS services (ECS/Fargate, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda, or similar) and experience with deploying solutions in AWS.Strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work as part of a distributed team as well as communicate directly with third-party partners to gather requirements, align on integration specifications, and coordinate feature deliveryAbility to resolve difficult technical problems in test as well as production environmentsBonus PointsPrior experience in the mobile software industryPrior experience in the telecommunication industryDevelopment experience with high-performance low-latency fault-tolerant systemsFundamental knowledge of the TCP/IP stack and working experience delivering solutions using the newest versions of the protocolUnderstanding of SIP protocol traffic, signaling paradigms, and VoIP call flow conceptsKubernetes or Docker Deployment ExperienceDynamoDB Global Tables and multi-region active-active architecture experienceExperience with ECS Fargate and container-based microservice deploymentsExperience with CloudWatch metrics, alarms, and observability pipelinesCI/CD knowledgeExperience with DatabricksExperience with Kinesis Firehose or similar streaming/event-driven architecturesKnowledge of AWS Cognito or similar OAuth2/JWT token-based authentication systemsExperience using best practices for efficient and performant SQL codeKnowledge of TLS/mTLS and/or OAuth2Knowledge of ProtoBuf and gRPCWorking knowledge of C++Working knowledge of PythonWorking knowledge of the Linux shell scriptingCompany BenefitsBalancing the work-life flow is key to health and happiness!
