Finishing Technician 3 - 2nd Shift

Job Summary Position: Finishing Technician II – 2nd Shift Location: CF Rail Services – Sasser subsidiary. Role: Responsible for the safe application of paint to repaired railcars, ensuring high quality and compliance with company and regulatory standards. Responsibilities Successfully complete, perform, and maintain Finishing Technician II job functions. Perform a general inspection of railcars to ensure proper condition before painting. Conduct final preparation before lining, including caulking, taping, masking, and protective covering of railcar parts. Preserve railcar components from overspray by using burlap, paper, cloth, or other suitable coverings. Maintain paint usage logs and record quantities used during painting application. Set up and operate various paint equipment, including cup guns, airless spray systems, polymer component systems, and paint reclamation equipment. Troubleshoot equipment and perform necessary repairs. Apply defect‑free linings and conduct inventory cycle counts of painting and blasting supplies. Mix paint according to vendor specifications for proper spray application. Spray paint and hand brush rolling stock, car parts, assemblies, and sub‑assemblies using various methods (water base, epoxy, enamel, etc.). Gauge wet and dry mill readings and document per CFRS requirements. Apply painted and vinyl stencils and decals as required. Clean, maintain, and properly store equipment. Dismantle, assemble, and adjust finishing equipment to ensure operation per manufacturer specifications. Wear appropriate PPE in all required areas. Act to support the interests of the department and organization, and perform other duties as assigned to achieve departmental and company objectives. Qualifications and Experience One‑year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Successfully pass the following courses with an 80% or higher score coordinated by CF Rail Management: documented training to set up and operate or drive equipment such as forklift, manlift, crane, backhoe, skid loader, hoist, and hydraulic boom. Hard Skills: ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions; solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations; read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in all units of measure. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work will be performed outdoors and indoors, on and around heavy equipment. May be required to work overtime and/or varied shifts to meet business demands. Work involves standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, crawling, and crouching in strained and awkward positions for prolonged periods, up to 20 feet high. Lifting and carrying equipment and components weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires medical certification to wear a respirator for prolonged periods.
