Advocate Outpatient Center and Ambulatory Surgery Center – Webster SHARE Meeting Community Needs With Integrated Care Located on the west edge of Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, the Advocate Outpatient Center and Ambulatory Surgery Center at Webster transforms a former multitenant space into a comprehensive healthcare destination. Advocate Health Care aimed to expand access to outpatient and surgical services, including gastrointestinal care, primary care, obstetrics, orthopedics, imaging, and lab processing. HDR was chosen for the integrated design and delivery approach, enabling close collaboration with Advocate, construction partner Boldt, and other collaborators to create a welcoming, efficient, and patient-centered environment. Reflective Design Rooted in Place Inspired by the site’s proximity to the North Branch of the Chicago River and the city’s industrial heritage, the design concept “Reflective Structure” celebrates water and steel. The space emphasizes vertical and horizontal elements with warm wood paneling and color to create a cohesive, intuitive experience. A structural spine guides patients through the space, while portals and soffits reflect light and form, echoing the river’s shimmering surface. Combine outpatient services and surgery in one location for convenience, continuity, and integrated care delivery. Use color-coded, lettered portals and intuitive signage to support wayfinding and self-rooming, reducing staffing needs. Incorporate large windows and skylights to enhance comfort and orientation, even in areas with limited daylight. Adopt an on-stage/off-stage layout that separates staff and patient flows to maintain privacy and calm while improving operational efficiency. Feature local artwork and photography, including pieces by a physician, that celebrate Chicago’s vibrant culture and seasons. #J-18808-Ljbffr
