Camp Via West is hiring Summer Camp Nurses

for our camp serving children and adults with disabilities

Compensation: $45/hr

Summer Dates: May 30th 2026 - August 22nd 2026 with part time spring hours available as well

* shifts are either a 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am

About the Role

Our camp nurses play an essential part in creating a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for campers and staff. This role combines clinical expertise with the flexibility and creativity required in an outdoor, community-centered setting. Camp nurses practice a wide range of skills including injury and illness prevention, health education, emergency response, medication management, and relational care. All this while contributing to a purposeful and joyful summer experience for youth and individuals with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Clinical Care

• Provide daily health assessments, first aid, and ongoing care for campers and staff.
• Administer and document medications, including morning, evening, and PRN dosing.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records in line with state regulations and camp policies.
• Coordinate emergency response, including communication with EMS, families, and leadership teams when needed.
• Support communicable disease prevention and risk reduction strategies.
• Oversee health center organization, cleanliness, supply management, and documentation.

Camper & Staff Support

• Promote health education, sun and hydration safety, and injury prevention throughout camp.
• Participate in staff training sessions to educate teams on basic first aid, wellness protocols, and emergency procedures.
• Build trusting, supportive relationships with campers and staff-creating a welcoming, judgment-free environment.
• Collaborate with counselors, leadership, and program staff to ensure camper needs are met and all activities follow appropriate safety guidelines.

Camp Operations

• Work independently and collaboratively within a small healthcare team.
• Assist in check-in and check-out health procedures, including reviewing health forms, conducting screenings, and organizing medications.
• Uphold all camp policies, ACA standards, and state health regulations.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum experience and qualifications:
• at least 18 years of age*

Required

• Current RN, LVN/LPN license in California (or ability to obtain temporary/reciprocal licensure).
• CPR and First Aid certification
• Experience working with children, youth, families, or individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize in a dynamic environment, and remain calm under pressure.

Preferred

• Background in pediatrics, school nursing, public health, emergency/urgent care, or community health.
• Previous camp experience or experience in nontraditional, residential, or community settings.
• Comfort with electronic health records and basic documentation systems.

Scheduling & Contract Options

To support flexibility, we offer:

• Full-summer or session-based seasonal employment
• Partial-season or rotating schedules
• Housing as needed

HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

• Proof of negative TB test results
• Proof of TDAP
• Verification of occupational physical clearance
• Pass a criminal fingerprint clearance
• 18 years of age
• Verification of eligibility to work in the US

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

Employees have the opportunity to share access needs during the interview process, upon hire, and ongoing throughout their employment. • Ability to lift and jointly transfer clients - may require lifting up to 45 lbs, with peer support and does require bending at the waist and knee
• Ability to be on your feet, standing, walking, and occasional running for a significant part of the day
• Ability to perform static standing for up to 45 minutes at a time
• Ability to walk over uneven terrain
• Ability to sit for up to 45 minutes, 3 - 6 times daily
