Description:

The Fabrication Supervisor reports directly to the Fabrication Manager and coordinates daily execution across assigned fabrication departments. The position connects the approved fabrication plan to floor-level performance by aligning supervisors, leads, labor, priorities, material readiness, quality, safety, and interdepartmental handoffs. The Fabrication Supervisor is accountable for reliable execution and escalation while the Fabrication Manager retains overall department strategy, capacity, and performance accountability.

Requirements:

Core Responsibilities

· Coordinate daily execution across assigned fabrication areas, including machine shop, weld shop, powder coating, copper, GP0-3 or Lexan, and other assigned fabrication operations.

· Translate the Fabrication Manager’s priorities and the approved production plan into aligned department priorities, sequence, staffing needs, and handoff expectations.

· Work through department supervisors and leads to maintain flow from material readiness through cutting, forming, fitting, welding, coating, inspection, staging, and release to downstream operations.

· Review daily status, constraints, WIP, aging work, capacity, shortages, downtime, quality concerns, and recovery actions with department supervisors.

· Lead structured shift-to-shift and department-to-department communication so job status, incomplete work, material needs, quality risks, and next actions are visible.

· Coordinate with fabrication planning, production planning, material control, quality, maintenance, engineering, electrical assembly, and shipping to resolve cross-functional constraints.

· Verify that supervisors maintain clear assignments, accurate tracking, organized work areas, appropriate staffing, and timely escalation.

· Support root-cause analysis and corrective action for missed priorities, bottlenecks, rework, scrap, downtime, safety concerns, and recurring handoff failures.

· Develop supervisors and leads through coaching, performance feedback, cross-training, delegation, and consistent expectations.

· Support standard work, visual management, capacity awareness, digital tracking, and continuous-improvement initiatives across fabrication.

Provide the Fabrication Manager with accurate status, risks, recommended actions, and follow-up on commitments. 

Safety and Compliance

· Enforce company safety rules, required PPE, hazard communication, housekeeping, lockout/tagout, material handling, and safe equipment operation.

· Verify employees are trained and qualified for assigned work and promptly correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.

· Support inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, and applicable company, OSHA, environmental, fire-safety, customer, and quality-system requirements.

· Maintain awareness of hazards across fabrication operations, including welding, lasers, machines, powder coating, lifting, forklifts, chemicals, heat, sharp materials, and stored energy.

Authority and Accountability

· Coordinate and rebalance priorities across assigned fabrication departments within the direction of the Fabrication Manager.

· Require timely status updates, corrective actions, and follow-through from department supervisors and leads.

· Pause or escalate work when safety, quality, drawing, material, staffing, or schedule risks cannot be controlled at the department level.

· Escalate changes to staffing, capacity, equipment, materials, quality, engineering, customer requirements, and delivery risk to the Fabrication Manager.

· Recommend process changes, staffing actions, training, equipment, recognition, discipline, and organizational improvements to the Fabrication Manager.

· The Fabrication Supervisor does not independently change customer requirements, committed delivery dates, approved engineering requirements, or department strategy without appropriate management approval.

Performance Measures

· Reliable daily execution of the approved fabrication plan.

· Throughput, schedule adherence, bottleneck response, and reduced WIP aging.

· Quality, first-pass yield, reduced rework and scrap, and effective corrective action.

· Accuracy of status reporting, material readiness, WIP tracking, and cross-department handoffs.

· Safety performance, housekeeping, training compliance, and hazard response.

· Supervisor and lead effectiveness, labor utilization, cross-training, delegation, and follow-through.

· Implementation and sustained use of standard work, visual controls, and improvement actions.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant manufacturing experience may substitute.

· Five or more years of industrial fabrication, manufacturing, or production experience, including experience leading multiple work centers or departments.

· Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to coordinate supervisors, leads, and cross-functional work.

· Working knowledge of fabrication flow, machine operations, fitting and welding, powder coating, material handling, quality controls, and production planning.

· Ability to read production information, drawings, specifications, schedules, and status reports.

· Strong organization, problem-solving, follow-up, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

· Ability to use production-tracking systems, email, spreadsheets, and basic reporting tools.

Physical and Working Requirements

· Regular presence on the production floor, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing stairs or platforms, and occasional lifting or handling of materials within company limits.

· Work may involve noise, moving equipment, forklifts, sharp materials, heat, dust, fumes, compressed air or gases, and other industrial hazards. Required PPE must be worn and all work must follow company safety procedures.
