Senior Payroll Compliance Analyst – Payroll Operations Department Overview Responsible for processing U.S. multi‑state and Canadian multi‑province payrolls and tax remittances, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining accuracy and timeliness. Partners with HR, Legal, Finance and other stakeholders to align payroll processes with evolving business needs and regulations, providing a high‑class user experience. What you’ll do Payroll compliance & tax operations – oversee U.S. and Canadian multi‑jurisdictional payroll tax reconciliations, ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial and local regulations, and serve as primary backup for service partner payroll expertise. Automation, optimization & payroll data strategy – drive process optimization and automation initiatives to enhance payroll compliance, reconciliations and reporting; analyze payroll data trends and provide insights for process improvements and compliance risk mitigation. Governance & strategic influence – represent payroll in strategic discussions, collaborate with key stakeholders and leaders to assess the impact of new business strategies, system implementations and regulatory changes, and partner with external tax agencies and internal stakeholders to mitigate risks. Controls & compliance risk management – establish and maintain payroll tax controls, identify compliance control gaps, recommend and implement process improvements, and collaborate with audit, risk management and finance teams. Informal leadership & partnership – act as an informal leader within payroll, provide mentorship and technical/strategic guidance, manage service escalations, support payroll process changes related to system updates and policy shifts, and maintain broad knowledge to ensure business continuity. What you’ll need Education: Bachelor’s Degree Experience: Minimum of 6 years of payroll experience, with exposure to payroll tax, compliance, data analysis and process improvement. Skills & technology: Strong knowledge of data analytics, reporting tools and compliance and governance frameworks. Experience with automation tools, HCM/ERP system implementations and financial reconciliations. Ability to analyze payroll trends and develop data‑driven strategies for process improvements. Certifications: Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) – preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – preferred. Candidates that live within a commutable distance from the Tempe, AZ or St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week starting June 1, 2026. Prior to that date, work three days per week with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.
