Patient Types/Common Diagnoses
Neurological:
Ischemic (post TNK, thrombectomies), hemorrhagic strokes (SAH, IPH, IVH, SDH), seizures, spinal surgeries, brain mass resections/biopsies, etc. Anything that falls under neurocritical can be handled here
All significant neuro-intensive care patients assigned to core staff
Non-Neuro ICU:
Medical respiratory overflow, general medical ICU overflow
Patient Ratios
1:1-2, 1:3 for mixed acuity status
Required License, National Certification, Certs
BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills Required
Vents, trachs, art lines, vasopressor and sedation management, central line blood draws
EPIC experience required
Preferred: CVVH/CRRT, EVD
Support within the Department
CNA with 1:8-10
Charge RN rarely takes a patient assignment
Critical Care NP: 2 on Days
Intensivist 24/7 (2 on Days, 1 on Nights)
Hospitalist 24/7
RT 24/7
Phlebotomy to assist with peripheral blood draws
Telemetry at bedside and central monitor at nurses station

IV Pump: Alaris
Med dispensing: Pyxis
Monitors: GE
Unit specific equipment: Medtronic EVDs

ED Holding (board patients waiting for an inpatient bed) 1:3-4
