Research Scientist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Research Scientist based in United States.

This role focuses on using advanced analytics and research methods to improve healthcare delivery, population health, and medical cost outcomes. You will work with large and complex healthcare datasets to uncover actionable insights and evaluate innovative solutions. The position sits within a multidisciplinary environment that brings together data scientists, clinicians, clinical informaticists, strategy teams, and business stakeholders. You will research, prototype, evaluate, and scale data-driven approaches that can influence enterprise healthcare strategies and initiatives. Your work will support efforts to improve outcomes for Medicare Advantage populations, including underserved communities. The role combines statistical, epidemiologic, mathematical, and data science techniques with practical business problem-solving. Accountabilities

Research, prototype, evaluate, and scale innovative ideas designed to improve population health, healthcare delivery, and medical cost outcomes.

Collaborate with analytics, strategy, clinical, and business teams to establish objectives, methodologies, priorities, and work plans.

Evaluate existing healthcare programs and identify new opportunities to improve outcomes and generate measurable impact.

Apply descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics techniques to transform large volumes of structured and unstructured data into actionable insights.

Work with clinicians and clinical informaticists to define clinical concepts and extract relevant information from medical, pharmacy, and laboratory claims.

Develop analytical solutions and research approaches using mathematical, statistical, epidemiologic, econometric, and data science methods.

Translate complex analytical findings into clear recommendations, key takeaways, and business insights for stakeholders and decision-makers.

Partner with enterprise stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and measure the impact of solutions addressing significant healthcare challenges.

Apply organizational and departmental strategies to establish work priorities and guide research activities.

Make decisions regarding research and analytical approaches, including in situations involving some ambiguity, while working with general guidance.

Communicate findings and methodologies clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Contribute to initiatives focused on improving health outcomes, healthcare quality, and affordability for diverse populations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.

1–3 years of experience applying mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, econometrics, or related quantitative methods to transform complex, high-volume data into actionable insights.

Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills.

Demonstrated interest in healthcare and motivation to contribute to improved population health outcomes.

Proficiency in manipulating and analyzing data using at least one programming language, such as Python or R.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate sophisticated analytical methodologies and results into concise business recommendations.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Adaptability and comfort working in dynamic environments with evolving priorities.

Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or Data Analysis is preferred.

Experience in healthcare or managed care environments is preferred.

Experience working with medical, pharmacy, and laboratory claims data is desirable.

Experience working with large-scale datasets and technologies such as PySpark, Spark R, or Spark Scala is a plus.

Experience with causal inference, causal machine learning, deep learning, NLP, recommender systems, network analysis, or other advanced machine learning techniques is desirable.

Familiarity with clinical concepts spanning areas such as oncology, falls, palliative care, behavioral health, and chronic conditions is beneficial.

Understanding of healthcare payer economics and areas such as electronic medical records, episode grouping, utilization management, value-based care, or low-value care is advantageous.

Annual base salary range of

$78,400–$107,800

, with actual compensation varying based on geographic location, skills, experience, education, certifications, and other job-related factors.
