Site The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. (Mass General Brigham) Job Summary Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Essential Functions Obtain quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. Ensure accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens. Assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting. Communicate effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Handle sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Work fluently with computer programs and systems, and comply with HIPAA regulations. Perform other test administration and specimen collection as assigned. Qualifications Education : High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Completion of a phlebotomy course preferred. Licenses and Credentials : Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License (State License) – Generic – HR Only preferred. Experience : No experience required. No experience in lieu of a degree. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Proficiency in proper collection methods and specimen processing, including tube selection, volume, and stability requirements. Good written and oral communication skills; ability to prioritize work, manage time, and adjust to changes in work volume and projects. Superior customer service skills, with empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy. Independent work coupled with effective collaboration within a team, fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
