Overview University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Sheetmetal Superintendent to lead medium and large‑scale data center projects, ensuring exceptional quality, safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction. The role directs and coordinates all field installation activities for the sheet metal scope on major data center projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with UMEC’s quality standards and client expectations. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and mentor sheet metal foremen, journeymen, and apprentices Coordinate daily field operations, manpower planning, and work sequencing Ensure installation meets plans, specifications, codes, and UMEC standards Oversee onsite fabrication and installation of ductwork systems and equipment Promote and enforce UMEC’s safety program and OSHA guidelines Collaborate with GCs, trade partners, project managers, and BIM teams Track productivity, materials, tools, and equipment requirements Support cost control, RFIs, and as‑built documentation Qualifications 8+ years of sheet metal installation experience 3+ years of supervisory or superintendent experience Experience with medium and large data center or mission‑critical projects Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and ductwork installation Ability to read mechanical drawings, specifications, and BIM models Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills Experience with prefabrication workflows Apprenticeship completion or equivalent training Familiarity with Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, etc. Understanding of LEAN and Last Planner System Travel to job site locations in Greater Phoenix as needed Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) Familiarity with project management/document control software Familiarity with construction/financial software packages Required Attributes Integrity, honesty, professionalism and commitment to company values Self‑motivated and able to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment Excellent organizational, communication, strategic, technical, analytical, problem‑solving, and multi‑tasking skills High standards of quality with attention to detail Builds positive working relationships at multiple levels and adapts to diverse personalities Demonstrated ability to perform basic business mathematical functions Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Complies with all operating policies, procedures, plans, and programs Language Skills Must effectively communicate in English and cooperate, collaborate with multiple levels of customer, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, suppliers, and other contractor organizations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to sit, see, talk, and hear; use hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; walk, reach, climb, balance, kneel; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Commuting to field locations may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

May work outdoors in wet and/or humid conditions, with mechanical and electrical parts, high places, dust, fumes, hazardous chemicals, and variable weather. Noise level is moderate to loud.
