This includes transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress exams used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. General duties include preparing equipment, prepping patients, and explaining procedures. The role also involves reviewing images, reporting findings, and analyzing patient clinical history. Key responsibilities include identifying and defining cardiac abnormalities and extending the examination scope as necessary. The sonographer may assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing echocardiograph studies. They are responsible for preparing patients for procedures and obtaining clinical histories. Daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and equipment is a fundamental task. The position requires acting as a resource to other staff regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies. Collaboration with quality coordinators in ensuring adherence to quality processes and protocols is essential. The role involves implementing protocols as new technology evolves and ensuring adherence to echocardiography standards. Knowledge of complex sonographic principles, instrumentation, and techniques is crucial to perform the job effectively. Additionally, understanding cardiac anatomy and physiology is required. Effective communication with healthcare providers and patients regarding echocardiographic examinations is necessary. Proper infection control and knowledge of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality are essential skills. Competency in utilizing computers and medical equipment is also required for the role.
