Job TitleHousekeeping Aid (Leader)Job DescriptionLeads a team of 5-15 employees performing work at the WG-2 level. Provides guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the team while taking an active part in accomplishing the team's goals through daily participation in work. Works with the supervisor in the assignment of functions to all Housekeeping Aids on his/her team in order to meet routine and unusual deadlines and priorities. Serves as work leader assuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees. Visually examine items for damage, deterioration, or imperfections such as rust, pitting, and cracks of equipment utilized in connection with the job. Operates janitorial equipment to determine whether it operates correctly after re-assembly. Promptly reports malfunctioning or damaged equipment for repair. Determines methods or devises new processes when traditional practice is not sufficient. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed i.e. assuring that limits of safe machine operation are not exceeded and that all tools are used properly. Must be able to read, write and follow verbal and written direction. Must have an understanding of the basic principles of microbiology as they apply to housekeeping operations, especially as they relate to the resistance of microorganisms to external destructive agents. Knowledgeable of cleaning principles and techniques including, different cleaning chemicals and methods, storage, and shelf-life characteristics.Work Schedule: 6am-2:30pm, 3pm-11:30pm, with possible weekends and holidays and rotating tours, based on the needs of the service and medical centerPhysical Requirements: This position requires occasional bending/stooping, crouching, and kneeling. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Approximately 40 percent of time spent standing, 40 percent of time spent walking and 20 percent of time spent sitting. Hearing and visual acuity. Manual dexterity to use a phone and operate equipment.
