About the Position: We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Fire Protection Engineer to join our team in Fort Collins. This critical role involves researching, developing, and producing comprehensive fire protection and mechanical construction drawings. As the Engineer of Record, you will apply high-level expertise in industry concepts and practices to design life-safety systems for complex healthcare environments, ensuring technical excellence and strict code compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Design: Lead the design of fire protection and plumbing systems, including automatic sprinkler layouts, fire pump sizing, piping, medical gas, and domestic water heating.
Technical Analysis: Perform critical system calculations, Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA), and equipment selections for high-stakes healthcare facilities.
Documentation: Develop detailed construction documents and job-specific specifications that meet the unique demands of the medical sector.
Code Compliance: Ensure all designs maintain strict adherence to NFPA standards (including NFPA 13, 20, and 99), ASHRAE, and the International Building Code (IBC).
Field Engineering: Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction inspections to verify that implementation aligns with design specifications.
Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as the Engineer of Record on projects and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
Multidisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate effectively with architects, electrical engineers, and clients to integrate fire protection and plumbing systems into the overarching building design.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), with a mandatory background in healthcare-specific projects.
Licensure: Current PE License and Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) License are both required.
Registration: NCEES Registration is required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Technical Skills: High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Trace 3D, and MS Office Suite.
Logistics: U.S. Citizenship is required (Federal Contractor status); ability to travel up to 20% depending on project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) credential.
Sustainability: LEED, Green Globes, or other sustainability-related credentials.
