About the Firm

My client is an award-winning, nationally recognized tax and wealth advisory firm based in Bergen County, NJ. They're growing and looking for a Tax Manager to join their accounting team of around 25 people. While the firm itself is boutique in size, its client base is firmly mid-market, giving you the close-knit feel of a smaller shop with the complexity and caliber of work you'd expect from a larger firm.

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000, plus bonus and benefits, depending on experience. They're committed to a healthy, inclusive and productive work environment. The team works one day a week remotely, with flexible scheduling and early finishes on summer Fridays. Extra hours are expected during tax season (Feb to Apr).

About the Role

\n

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll own the tax engagement process from preparation through review, manage the workflow and staffing behind it, and look after mid-market client relationships directly. You'll also play a big part in developing the team, training new hires at all levels and mentoring staff as the firm continues to grow.

\n

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

\n

• Manage the preparation and review of tax engagements, coordinating staffing and workflow
\n
• Prepare and review high-level tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections
\n
• Manage the tax compliance and tax planning process
\n
• Manage client budgets and production goals
\n
• Build new and existing client relationships with a strong understanding of each client's business
\n
• Improve processes by developing and implementing best practices
\n
• Maintain effective control procedures across all aspects of the tax process
\n
• Create and deliver training on tax programs and projects for new hires at all levels
\n
• Mentor staff to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement
\n
• Develop in-house CPE trainings on relevant topics and industries
\n
• Support special tax projects and help prepare proposals for new clients

Preferred Qualifications / Requirements

\n

\n
• 5+ years of CPA firm experience, focused on tax preparation
\n
• Experience working with mid-market clients, ideally from a mid-sized firm
\n
• A.S./B.S. in Accounting
\n
• MBA or Master's in Tax/Accounting a plus
\n
• Active CPA license
\n
• Proficient in Lacerte, ProSystem fx Tax, QuickBooks and Sage
\n
• Strong MS Office skills, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
\n
