Position Overview
The CAS Assessor is responsible for coordinating, conducting, and completing accurate and comprehensive assessments using a person-centered approach for individuals receiving OPWDD services. The Coordinated Assessment System (CAS) evaluates the strengths, needs, interests, and support requirements of individuals age 18 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Assessments are conducted through in-person and virtual interviews and observations at times and locations convenient for the individual. The CAS Assessor collaborates with caregivers, providers, care managers, and other supports to ensure assessments are completed accurately, professionally, and within required timelines.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct outreach to individuals and caregivers or primary supports regarding assigned assessments
Schedule and coordinate assessment appointments with individuals, caregivers, care managers, and providers in home, community, or telehealth settings
Conduct person-centered assessments at times and locations most convenient for the individual
Utilize conversational and person-centered interviewing techniques during assessments
Conduct supplemental interviews with caregivers and support staff to verify assessment information and coding accuracy
Review records and multiple information sources prior to finalizing assessments
Arrange interpreter services when necessary
Complete assessments using designated software applications
Accurately code assessments according to program guidelines and training standards
Document all case activity in accordance with program requirements
Meet or exceed established productivity and quality standards
Ensure assessments are completed within required timeframes
Maintain compliance with established performance expectations
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an approved human services discipline required
Minimum of one year of full-time experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
Experience adapting interviewing techniques for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, caregivers, clinicians, and support staff
Knowledge of supports and services available to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Proficiency with web-based applications, email, Microsoft Word, and database or spreadsheet software
Ability to travel throughout the assigned region as required
Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and active auto insurance required for assessors located outside the NYC five boroughs
Ability to accommodate flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends as needed

Hybrid role consisting of both in-person and virtual assessments
Travel within the assigned region is required, with assignments generally located within approximately 1.5 to 2 hours from the assessor's home location
Four-week paid training program provided, including remote instruction and in-person and virtual mock assessments
Evening and weekend availability may be required based on scheduling needs
