Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery

Location: Litchfield, MN
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights | 12-hour shifts | 3 shifts/week
Hours: 36 hours/week

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery for a 13-week contract. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a Critical Access Hospital environment and providing both Labor & Delivery and Medical-Surgical nursing care .

The ability to transition between OB and Med-Surg responsibilities is a key requirement for this position.

Schedule

• 36 hours per week
• 12-hour night shifts
• Option for:
  • Straight nights, or
  • Rotating shifts
• Every third weekend
• Schedule flexibility based on staffing needs

ResponsibilitiesLabor & Delivery

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum.
• Monitor maternal and fetal status and recognize changes requiring intervention.
• Perform patient assessments and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
• Assist with labor and delivery procedures.
• Provide postpartum and newborn care as appropriate.
• Administer medications and treatments according to orders and facility protocols.
• Provide patient and family education and emotional support.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals.
• Respond appropriately to obstetric emergencies.

Medical-Surgical

• Provide nursing care to Medical-Surgical patients when required.
• Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and prescribed treatments.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes to healthcare providers.
• Assist with procedures and treatments within the scope of practice.
• Provide patient education and discharge planning.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records.
• Prioritize care effectively across varying patient needs.

Requirements

• Current, active RN license .
• Previous Labor & Delivery experience required .
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience required .
• Must be comfortable providing both L&D and Med-Surg care .
• Critical Access Hospital or rural hospital experience preferred.
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment, and critical-thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently in a small hospital environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to rotate between L&D and Med-Surg based on facility needs.
• Ability to work every third weekend.
